Rick's Prosthetic Hand is a prosthetic that Rick uses after he loses his hand.

In the Comic Universe, Rick begins to use a prosthetic hand after the war against the Saviors.

In the TV Universe, Rick is given the hand by the CRM following the amputation of his left hand during an escape attempt. It takes on the form of a large metal closed fist with a deployable blade on the underside.

Post-Apocalypse[]

Comic Universe[]

Following the war against the Saviors, Earl Sutton makes Rick a body-powered prosthetic hook hand for his right arm.

TV Universe[]

After Rick agrees to join the CRM, Lieutenant Colonel Donald Okafor has Rick outfitted with a prosthetic hand to replace Rick's left hand which he had amputated during a failed escape attempt. The deployable blade in the hand subsequently becomes Rick's primary weapon against walkers, replacing his lost Colt Python and the Kill Stick that Rick had used as a consignee.

During his fifth escape attempt, Rick uses the blade to put down a zombified marine to use as a corpse to fake his own death. However, the appearance of the little girl and her zombified group derails Rick's plan, forcing him to save the little girl from the walkers instead, including her own parents.

After finally reuniting with her husband, Michonne notices his prosthetic hand, but Rick is unable to explain the full story to her. Later, upon noticing Thorne preparing to shoot Michonne during a fight with a herd, Rick grabs a walker, pulls it into Thorne's line of fire, and then stabs it as a way to interrupt her attack.

While traveling through Wyoming, Rick and Michonne retrieve a machete that was impaled in a walker's shoulder and Rick begins using it as his primary weapon instead of the blade in his prosthetic hand. Fighting a walker with calcified skin in Yellowstone National Park, Rick discovers that blows from his prosthetic hand cracks the walker's skin. Rick breaks an opening for Michonne to stab the walker in the head with her makeshift spear.

While making a deal with Jadis, Rick tosses out his prosthetic hand as a part of disarming himself.

During the Echelon Briefing, Major General Beale has Rick remove his prosthetic hand and place it on the desk along with Rick's pistol. When Rick attacks Beale, he puts his hand back on and uses it to block the blows from Beale's Sword, eventually disarming and killing Beale. Rick later uses it to beat to death a Frontliner who saw blood seeping from the supply crate in which Rick had concealed Beale's body.

As Rick and Michonne prepare to stop the CRM's plans and return home, Rick abandons his prosthetic hand on the windowsill of Beale's office where it's later found by Thorne.

Trivia[]

  • As seen in a behind the scenes photo, Rick was at some point supposed to get a prosthetic that more closely resembles his comic counterpart's prosthetic in The Ones Who Live, however this scene was deleted.
