Richard D. Grimes,[1] better known as Rick, is one of two protagonists and determinately an antagonist, as well as a survivor of the outbreak in GameMill Entertainment's The Walking Dead: Destinies. He is the husband of Lori and father of Carl. He determinately serves as the primary antagonist of "Survival of the Fittest".

Pre-Apocalypse

King County, Georgia

Rick was born in 1972. He married a woman named Lori, and together they had a son named Carl. One day, Rick was shot in the line of duty. His childhood friend and partner, Shane Walsh, who was at his side, desperately called for help as Rick fell into a coma.

Post-Apocalypse

Welcome to the Apocalypse

"Days Gone Bye"

Rick wakes up in the hospital and finds the whole place run-down and abandoned. He hobbles his way to the nurse's office, where he finds some painkillers, which instantly heal him. Afterwards, he finds a boarded-up door which reads "Don't Open, Dead Inside", as a bunch of decayed hands stick their hands through. Rick quickly puts together that things aren't quite right and sneaks through the hospital, around the undead individuals.

"Listen Up"

Rick heads back to his neighborhood in search of his wife and son. Upon returning, he is nearly attacked by a walker, but is saved by a man named Morgan Jones. Rick explains his situation to Morgan and afterwards gets dressed. Morgan gives Rick instructions and tips over the radio to help him kill walkers. Rick makes it to the abandoned police cruiser and broadcasts a message over the radio, which is responded to by a female individual, but the reception causes them to break up; however, Rick is able to hear that they are located outside Atlanta.

"Guts"

After Morgan tells Rick he heard rumors of a military camp in Atlanta, he heads off to the city, but finds it overrun by the dead. Rick fights his way through the city, but finds himself caught in the middle of a horde of walkers and quickly finds a way inside an abandoned tank.

However, Rick is saved when a man named Glenn Rhee lures the walkers away with a firetruck siren. Glenn radios Rick to make his way to way to the rooftop staircase. Once he does, he finds two men, Theodore Douglas and Merle Dixon, arguing. Due to Merle's racism, the dispute quickly turns physical, and Merle holds T-Dog down at gunpoint. Rick can choose to do either one of two options:

Defuse the Situation: Rick will hold Merle at gunpoint and make him get away from T-Dog. Rick tries to get the two to leave, but T-Dog refuses to go anywhere with Merle. Glenn tells Rick to give them a minute to cool down, and they leave the two alone, but as they do, Merle leaves T-Dog handcuffed to the rooftop.

Handcuff Merle: Rick will hit Merle with the butt of his gun and handcuff him to the roof before leaving, as Merle curses him.

"Life Worth Living"

Rick is brought to the camp by Glenn and Merle/T-Dog, where he is shocked to find his wife and son, Lori and Carl, and his best friend Shane. Rick happily embraces his family, as Shane looks on.

"Overrun"

As time passes, Rick quickly emerges as the new leader of the group, a role previously held by Shane. A few nights later, as Rick is in the woods, he spots a horde of walkers making their way towards the camp. He tries to radio Lori, to no avail. He quickly hurries back to camp, where he finds Lori and Carl trying to hide from the incoming walkers. He takes out the walkers and escorts them one at a time to the RV. Rick defends the RV as Lori tries to get it started. After she gets it running, she and Carl drive off, while Rick escapes in a pickup truck. Afterwards, he and the rest of the group take shelter on the side of a road.

Survival of the Fittest

"What Lies Ahead"

The survivors set up a temporary camp on a vehicle-jammed highway while they plan to head towards Fort Benning. However, before they can, Dale Horvath spots a horde approaching. A walker breaks through their defense and chases Carol Peletier's daughter Sophia away. Rick immediately goes after her, killing several walkers in his way, until he finds her hiding behind a bush. He tells her to hide near a creek while he draws the walkers away. He heads back near the highway and fights off the incoming horde. Once it's clear, he heads back to where Sophia was, but she is no longer there.

Shane and Carl soon find him. Shane and Rick get into an argument, while Carl spots a deer. The conversation is cut short when a gunshot rings out, and Rick and Shane see that Carl and the deer have been shot. Rick rushes over to Carl and carries him to a farm owned by an old man named Hershel Greene, along with his daughters Maggie and Beth. Hershel tells Rick to take Carl inside. Some time later, Hershel manages to stabilize Carl's condition, but the bullet broke into pieces and he doesn't have the right equipment. He tells them the nearest hospital burned down, but FEMA set up a shelter at the high school. Shane volunteers to go with the help of one of the Greene daughters.

"Bloodletting"

Depending on Shane's choice of either choosing to rescue Maggie/Beth Greene or the medical supplies, Rick will appear either mourning the death of his son or offering his condolences to Hershel on the death of his daughter.

"Haunted"

Rick will appear in this episode.

"Pretty Much Dead Already"

"Better Angels"

Death (Determinant)

Killed By

Trivia

  • If Rick survives in "Better Angels", he appears in the most episodes out of any other character, with a total of 21 episodes.
  • Concept art shows that Rick could've died and reanimated at the very beginning after the shootout with the criminals.[2]
    • This would've also indicated that the apocalypse started much earlier in this universe.
