Rick Grimes is the protagonist of the Pilot of Image Comics' The Walking Dead. He is a police officer from Pennsylvania.

Rick married a woman named Carol and at some point, he two had a son named Carl. Rick became a police officer and besides his firearm training, he had never fired a gun.
Post-Apocalypse[]
Pilot[]
Rick and Carol are watching a news broadcast about the dead rising from the graves. Rick, however doesn't believe it and sees it as a "War of the Worlds rip off". Rick decides to turn the TV off and go to bed, until he hears a thud at the door. Believing it's someone who just wants to use the phone, Rick opens the door and is attacked by a zombie. Warning the zombie the get off of him, Rick reaches for his gun, sticks it in the zombie's mouth, and shoots it dead.
