Rufus is an antagonist and a survivor of the outbreak in The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series. He is a member of the New Frontier.
Overview
Rufus comes off as an aggressive and hostile individual like most of his New Frontier companions. He seems to just want to do his job, telling Javi to pretend to sleep to do them both a favor. After Clementine makes a tree collapse in front of his truck, Javi has the choice of whether to spare Rufus or kill him. If Rufus is killed, Max is shown to be angered by his death will use it as an example that Javi can't be trusted. If he's spared, he will appear again later when putting Javi and David in their cell. He does seem somewhat grateful to him, saying that he hasn't killed Javi where he stands because he spared him, however he still says this in an unfriendly manner. It's later revealed that Rufus has a family and appears to be caring father. After he is bitten, rather than worrying about himself, he more worries about his daughter who has gone missing. His wife, Fern, refuses to accept his death and tries to get Javi to cut his arm off to save him. Either way, Rufus dies which causes Fern to completely lose it.
Pre-Apocalypse

Nothing is known about Rufus' life prior to or as the outbreak began, except that he is married to Fern, had a daughter named Ida and that he owned a motorcycle.
Post-Apocalypse
Before the events of the game, Rufus along with his family joined the New Frontier, allowing himself to be branded to prove his loyalty.
A New Frontier
"Ties That Bind - Part 1"
Rufus and his squad found Javier at a scrapyard. After Javier is knocked out, he wakes up finding himself in a truck being driven by Rufus. Rufus orders him to pretend to still be asleep, threatening to hurt him otherwise. Before they talk further, a tree collapses on to the road, causing Rufus to panic and crash the truck. Javier recovers first, grabbing the pistol from the dashboard as he exits the vehicle, Rufus doing likewise. He tries to run away only for Javier to call out to him. Rufus holds his hands up, with Javier either shooting him dead or letting him go (Determinant) and he then proceeds to run away into the woods.
"Thicker Than Water"
Rufus appears at the start of the episode if he was spared in the first episode. He is seen putting Javier and David in the quarantine room. Javier pleads for his help but Rufus sarcastically says the only help he is getting is not being shot.
"From The Gallows"
Rufus appears in the beginning of the episode if he was spared in the first episode, being taken care of by Eleanor as Fern is by his side. Having been bit, the process of reanimation has already begun with little effort to change it at this point, much to the grief of Fern. In an effort to keep him alive, she will desperately ask Javi to cut off his arm to keep the already widespread bite to corrupt him, and if Javi agrees to it, Rufus will quickly yet painfully die from blood loss. If Javi refuses however, after Fern calms down and refrains from shooting Javi and Kate, David will heartlessly break her arm and shoot Rufus in the head to prevent reanimation, killing him.
A photo of Rufus is later seen on the memorial wall, the image depicting him sitting on a motorcycle before the outbreak started.

As Rufus drives Javier to Richmond, he crashes his truck into a tree that suddenly falls onto the road, veering into a ditch. Javier the opportunity to grab Rufus's gun, getting out of the vehicle as he attempts to flee. After stopping momentarily to surrender to Javier, Rufus sees that Javier intends to kill him and runs away, but Javier shoots him in the back, killing him. Shortly thereafter, Clementine holds up Javier and searches the truck, revealing that she had caused the crash.
A few days later, Max claimed to have found Rufus dead at Javier's and Clementine's hands, meaning that it is possible that Max put him down before or after reanimation.

Rufus is bitten deeply on his arm by walkers after Kate accidentally breaches the walls of Richmond. Eleanor stabilizes him as best she can, but does not want to amputate the limb because he had already lost too much blood. Fern begs them to cut off Rufus's arm anyway, desperate to save him.

Javier takes a hatchet from Fern and chops off Rufus's arm with one swing, but Rufus immediately convulses and dies. A minute later, Rufus reanimates as a walker, but David steps up and unceremoniously shoots him in the head with Fern's gun.

The others refuse to amputate the infected limb, deferring to Eleanor's belief that it would kill him. After disabling Fern, David wordlessly shoots Rufus in the head with her gun before he can offer any protest, ending his suffering.
