Russell Brown is a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. He is a resident of the Broke Jaw Ranch community, alongside his wife Martha Brown. Russell is also one of the four founding fathers of the community.
Overview[]
One of the four founding fathers of the Ranch, Russell is a brutal man, and likely a racist. He and the other founding fathers had lunched three Native American juvenile delinquents before the outbreak and never were punished for this. However, Russell generally seems to be a caring husband. After his wife dies, Russell loses the will to live and kills himself.
Pre-Apocalypse[]
Tokyo, Japan[]
Russell Brown served in the Korean War. At one point, he was hospitalized and he met his future wife, Martha, who was working as a nurse.
Southern California[]
After they got married they moved to the southern United States, where Russell became friends with fellow ranchers Jeremiah Otto, Vernon Trimbol, and Phil McCarthy. At some point, the men came into conflict with residents of the Black Hat Reservation. Under Otto's direction, Russell and the other men camped out one night and lynched three Native American juvenile delinquents. They hid the bodies to cover up their crime and were never investigated or prosecuted.
Post-Apocalypse[]
Season 3[]
"The New Frontier"[]
As Jeremiah gives Madison and Nick a tour of the ranch, Russell can be seen talking to Martha and two guards before he sits down in a chair by his camper with his wife.
"TEOTWAWKI"[]
Russell is at Charlene's memorial service with his wife listening to Pat talk about her daughter. That night, Russell is dancing with Martha outside their hillside adobe.
"Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame"[]
Russell wakes up in the middle of the night after hearing noises. He sees that his wife, Martha, is doing something, and asks if she's okay. He then discovers that Martha has reanimated. He goes to hug her and she bites him, but it's revealed that she has dentures, and is currently without them. Russell dances with the zombified Martha for a while, before grabbing a gun and shooting both himself and the reanimated Martha in the head. They both fall on a lantern that breaks, and burns them and their house to the ground. Later, Jeremiah reveals Martha and Russell's backstory to Nick.
