A salt lick is a place where animals can go to lick essential mineral nutrients from a deposit of salts and other minerals.
Post-Apocalypse[]
Salt licks are present on the St. John's Dairy Farm where Clementine implies to Lee Everett that she licked one.
After Larry suffers a massive heart attack, Kenny insists that the Motel Survivors need to destroy his brain to prevent the risk of Larry reanimating rather than trying to revive him with CPR. With or without the agreement of Lee, Kenny drops a salt lick on Larry's head, completely destroying it. However, it is unclear if the CPR was working or if Larry was on the verge of reanimating when Kenny crushed his head.
Seven years later, AJ finds a salt lick outside of James' Barn. An amused Clementine can encourage him to lick it, resulting in a disgusted reaction from the young boy. Clementine can also warn AJ against licking it, once again implying that she had done so herself.
