I know it's no consolation, but Sarah died a hero...she saved the lives of her sisters.
―Lilly to Sarah's father, Chad.[src]

Sarah Bingham is a survivor of the outbreak in Thomas Dunne Books' The Walking Dead. She is the eldest daughter of Chad and Donna Bingham, and the sister of Mary, Lydia and Ruthie. She is described as "a skinny tomboy in a faded denim jumper and down vest with big inquisitive blue eyes". She also wears a "pink angora sweater".

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Sarah was born in 1988. Nothing is known about Sarah's life prior to or as the outbreak began, except that she lived with her parents and three sisters.

"Red Day Rising"[]

Five days after arriving in tent city, Sarah and her sisters play hopscotch on a makeshift court etched into the red-brick clay with a stick while Lilly Caul babysits them. The settlers hear an engine in the distance and worry about it being a possible gangs of raiders. The Bingham girls freeze mid-skip and Sarah shoots a look to the road, but Lilly assures her that it's probably one of their own vehicles. Lilly rounds up the four children and tells Sarah to pick up Ruthie before herding them all into the Bingham family tent.

On November 2nd Lilly babysits the Bingham girls while most of the camp goes on a run to gather firewood. Sarah and her sisters play musical chairs with three broken-down lawn chairs inside the circus tent. Lilly hears walkers approaching and Sarah asks her what's wrong with a sulk. She quickly realizes the seriousness of the situation and grabs the hands of the twins. They start to make their way out of the tent when a walker approaches from outside. They retreat back into the darkness and Sarah huddles with the twins in terror. Lilly says they're going to play a new game "hide and seek" but all the girls know this isn't a game. Lilly goes to grab something on the other side of the tent but Sarah begs her not to leave. While Lilly grabs a shovel, Sarah's leg is grabbed by a walker from under the tent. She shrieks and instinctively pulls away to escape, causing the walker to get dragged further inside. Lilly jumps into action and kills the zombie, freeing Sarah. She and her sisters cling to one another and slowly back away towards the tent's exit where half a dozen walkers enter the tent. Lilly grabs Sarah and pulls her away. Sarah picks up Ruthie and the group plans on sneaking under the tent flaps when another walker blocks their path, having crawled in from underneath. The zombie goes for Sarah but bumps into the centre pillar and collapses the whole circus tent. In the darkness, Lilly orders Sarah to take her hand and grab the other girls to pull them out. The girls escape from under the collapsed tent, but Lydia is missing.

Lilly rescues Lydia and all the girls cling to her as they run towards a silver Chrysler 300 parked with it's keys in the ignition. Sarah goes to put the twins in the right rear passenger door when a dozen dead emerge from the trees behind her. She gets the door open but doesn't have time to get the twins inside as they sprawl to the grass. In the chaos, the twins safely shut themselves inside the car as Sarah is surrounded by walkers. In a blind-hot rage she shoves one away and pushes her way into the open. Sarah begins fleeing back towards the circus tent when a pack of zombies blocks her path and corners her, latching on to her back and bringing her to the ground as more pile on. The first bite penetrates her imitation-angora sweater at the midriff, taking a chunk of her torso. More zombies bite into her jugular and she's quickly devoured in front of Lilly and her sisters. Lilly bangs her shovel on the row of vehicles to lead all the walkers away. The only ones who don't follow are the six devouring Sarah.

The next day a funeral is held for Sarah and the other fifteen survivors that died during the attack which the seventy-three settlers of tent city (excluding Lilly and Chad) attend. Small piles of stones mark each of the sixteen graves and Josh Hamilton made sure Sarah's marker got adorned with a bouquet of little white Cherokee roses. Josh attempts to speak at Sarah's funeral but is overcome with emotion and breaks down before leaving. Soon after, Chad attacks Lilly over failing to protect Sarah, causing Josh to kill him while defending Lilly.
