Sarah Blake was the wife of Philip Blake, and mother of Penny Blake. She was also Brian Blake's sister in-law, and the daughter in-law to Rose and Ed Blake. She also had a sister called Nina. Though not actually seen in the novel, Sarah's past and fate are mentioned in The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor.

Pre-Apocalypse

Rural Georgia

Sarah died a few years before the outbreak began. She was driving down a road just south of Athens, coming home from visiting a friend at the University of Georgia. She was intoxicated and drunk where Sarah crashed her car on a twisty road somewhere in Wilkes County, Georgia. She was immediately killed at the scene of the accident and her body was identified by Philip, which resulted in him and Penny being put into a temporary state of shock.

Post-Apocalypse

Though Sarah died long before the outbreak, Philip mentioned her a lot throughout the story. When Penny was turning into a walker, Philip thought about the two of them and his family, and how they could be together now in Heaven. That thought made Philip think his heart was being torn away.
