Nothing is known about Scott's life prior to or as the outbreak began. It is likely that he lived in Alexandria before the outbreak started, as he is selected to be one of the Safe-Zone runners for his speed and knowledge of the surrounding areas.
Scott broke his leg during a supply run. When he and Heath jumped from a rooftop, he landed hard, awkwardly. They launched a call for help by shooting a flare from inside the city. This was witnessed by Rick Grimes' group, who were, by this time, in Aaron's company. With their combined assistance, Scott was moved back into the Safe-Zone.
While impressed that Rick and his group survived on their own for so long, he was also suspicious of them. He and Heath appear to be close friends, and Heath harbors strong feelings of guilt regarding Scott's accident. Until Scott fully healed, leader Douglas Monroe decided that Glenn will take his place as a supply runner.
However, a few days later, Scott dies peacefully from his infection, while talking to Heath, and is put down by Michonne before reanimation. Thanks to Scott's heroic nature, Alexandria has a funeral in his honor.

Scott was Heath's best friend. After Scott's leg was injured, Heath worked restlessly to find him antibiotics during his supply runs. Heath is with Scott as he dies and is devastated, and demands that they have a funeral so that Scott's heroic nature would be remembered. After Douglas agrees to this, due to the death of his wife, the group holds the funeral, to which Heath highlights his best friend's importance to himself and the community. During the burial, he asks those carrying Scott to be careful with the body.
- Scott was the first character to die by an infection that wasn't caused by the bite of a zombie.
- Scott was the first seen member of the Alexandria Safe-Zone to die in the Comics.
