While Carol observes Terminus, she sees a few of the residents, including Mary, using spears to put down walkers through the Terminus fence before being forced to retreat by the approach of a massive herd.

After leaving King County, Georgia, Morgan Jones creates spears as his weapons until he is captured by Eastman. While helping to rehabilitate Morgan, Eastman "fixes" one of Morgan's spears by cutting off the tip and transforming it into a staff as Morgan's new weapon. After they part ways briefly, Morgan fashions himself another spear, but he quickly abandons it and returns to using the staff.

While getting revenge for the slaughter at their former home, Beatrice kills Justin with her spear gun, later allowing Daryl Dixon to identify her as the culprit and Cyndie kills Arat by impaling her in the back of the head with a spear.

Six years after Rick Grimes' presumed death, melee weapons such as spears and bows and arrows are more common amongst the communities as their weapons than guns. The Coalition also adopts spears as some of their primary weapons in the war against the Whisperers.

During the Whisperers' destruction of the Hilltop, the Coalition uses a number of spears against both the Whisperers' horde and the Whisperers themselves.

Some of the Wardens use spears such as Gus, Ainsley, and Maya.

When Aaron, Carol, Jerry and Lydia return to the ruins of the Hilltop for blacksmithing supplies to try to fix Alexandria's damaged walls, they are saddened to find a number of reanimated Coalition soldiers wandering around. Aaron and Jerry pick up spears that are still lying amongst the ruins and use them to put down several of the walkers while Carol uses her bow and Lydia her staff. Afterwards, Aaron and Jerry drop the spears again.

While cleaning out houses of walkers for the Commonwealth with Ezekiel, Princess and Eugene, Shira uses a spear. Shira later uses her spear to put down one of the walkers coming up on Sebastian Milton and Kayla Brand. When another one comes up from behind Kayla during Sebastian and Eugene's argument, Shira puts it down with her spear, but she accidentally sprays Kayla with walker blood when she pulls the spear out again.

During the defense of the Commonwealth, a number of Coalition soldiers arm themselves with spears while diverting the herd from the Estates.

Led by Alicia Clark and Victor Strand, the workers herd the walkers until their numbers start to overwhelm the workers. At one point, Charlie falls into trouble, but she is saved by Dakota. After Ben and Adrienne arrive in search of Dakota, they force the workers to drop their spears, but they pick them up again as the walkers begin to break free of their trap. With the herd starting to overwhelm them, Strand sacrifices Sanjay to draw the herd away, giving Alicia and Janis time to grab the Rangers' guns and shoot the remaining walkers instead.

After Dev is killed by the CRM, Will takes Dev's spear back to the Perimeter with him.

While recovering from his leg injury, Felix Carlucci briefly uses Will's spear as both a walking stick and a weapon in place of his S-Pole while looking for a walker to dress up as Will. After Iris hesitates to put down an empty, Felix does it instead with the spear. However, he returns the spear to Will before they part ways and returns to using his S-Pole shortly thereafter.

Shortly thereafter, Michonne gains a new makeshift spear in the form of a bar that she takes from the apartment building's gym. Michonne uses it against the zombified residents, at one point inadvertently getting a shared kill with Rick. While trapped under a chandelier in a stairway, Michonne uses her spear to fend off walkers as Rick tries to free her, but it gets stuck in the chest of one walker that she impales behind the head of another walker that she had put down. The walker drags itself down the spear towards the trapped Michonne, but Rick gives Michonne his knife to stab the walker with. Once the walker is dead, Michonne is able to free her weapon from the corpses. Michonne continues to use her makeshift spear against the Greenwood walkers and carries it with her when Rick and Michonne take one of the community's vehicles to return to Alexandria.

Trivia[]

  • Morgan Jones' staff was originally a spear. During the war with the Saviors, Morgan sharpens the end so that the staff can act like a spear against the living with Henry doing the same. Henry later did away with this feature in his more ornate black version of the staff while Morgan switched to using the sharpened end only for the undead..
