Trivia[]
- Like in the first game, the game's story is based on the choices the player makes.
- The story takes place three months right after the story from the first game.
- Just like in the first game, the story is about 15 hours long of playing time.[3]
- Players are able to import their save file from the first game to the second one.
- Several easter eggs relating to other The Walking Dead media can be found, such as:
- A locked double door that says "Don't Open, Dead Inside", at the hospital in the Tower location. This is a reference to the double door at the hospital that Rick Grimes encounters in the first episode of the main TV show.
- A uniform of the Commonwealth Army can be found in a room in Memorial Lane.
- The game has every location from the first game, plus three new ones: The Tower, Bourbon Street, and Hotel E'Claire.
- Several older locations have been updated and expanded, such as The Resting Place, Bywater, Via Carolla, and The Ward.
- Another location, Old Town, has been overrun by a horde of walkers, giving an extra challenge when visiting it.
- It's now possible to travel during the night, adding a new feature of stealth. The player can be easily noticed by walkers when using the flashlight or entering brightly lit areas. Rewards are also more plentiful at night. A player may travel to a night location directly following a daytime location without sleeping at the Resting Place in-between.
- With this, flares are added to distract walkers.
- Exile traders provide a new game dynamic and opportunity to obtain useful or rare items. At most travel locations, an Exile trader will appear at night at a specific place, offering rewards in return for requested items. Three sequential trades are available at each location, increasing each time in both difficulty and value. When all trades have been completed, the Exile trader is replaced with an Exile foothold, regularly offering items at a nearby place on the same map.
- Backpacks can now be randomly found containing assortments of weapons and items. More plentiful at night, they can be an important source for items otherwise difficult to obtain in early stages of the game.
- Two new crafting tables have been added with additional weapons and armor.
- Additional resources such as leather, phosphorus, and plastic have been added to support the new items.
- Using the newly added gloves, the player can now use their fists to fight enemies.
- Walkers can now fall off of balconies, broken windows and bridges.
- Walkers have new animations now, such as falling and getting back up.
- New gore animations allow the player to use the chainsaw to cut through any part of an enemy's body.
- Since the second game is technically an expansion/continuation of the first game, there are several leftovers, unfinished elements and paradox missions present, such as:
- Loading screens mention the Trial game mode, which is only available in the first game.
- Radio station 47, which announces newly found caches across the city, never mentions the three new locations. If a cache is available there, the radio station will only announce the type of cache, but not the location.
- Starting with the mission where the player has to find Desiree's mom at night, Via Carolla becomes overrun with walkers. If travelling there during the day afterwards and killing walkers until none spawn anymore, the town will turn normal again. At night however, the town will always revert back to the state it was during Desiree's mission. Contradictory, the town will not become overrun again the next day and will stay "Clear".
- If Via Carolla has been cleared at day, Exiles will spawn at night again, even though they stopped spawning starting with the mentioned mission. This is another contradiction, because at night the town is in the same state as it was when the Exiles stopped spawning.
- Exiles currently stop spawning in The Shallows after late evening on day 4, making further orders also impossible to fulfill. On the morning of day 5, any previous trade progress made at this location is also erased.
- The skyline in Memorial Lane still uses the Tower's architecture from the first game.
