AMC's The Walking Dead is an arcade game that officially released in January 2017. It is based on AMC's The Walking Dead.
Synopsis[]
The game takes place at the West Georgia Correctional Facility from Season 3 and Season 4 of the TV series. It features a new group who must escape from the prison as a massive horde of zombies infests the buildings. The game is split up into 4 levels, which the player can choose as a starting point at the beginning. The game is an on-rails shooter featuring extensive use of the player's crossbow and other various weapons.
Plot[]
"Chapter 1"[]
Jason is woken in his bed, in Cell Block C, by Kara, who tells him the prison has been breached and they need to escape. As she tells him this, a walker enters the cell, and Jason grabs his crossbow and kills it. They fight their way out of the cell block, and through some dark hallways, eventually making it across the walkway and to the overflowing courtyard. Jason claims they can make it to the fence, and attempts to do so, but Kara points out there are too many walkers, which force them back to the prison, with Jason blowing up a fuel tank to slow down the walkers. As they enter another hallway, he drops the crossbow when he is attacked by a walker in riot gear, which he eventually kills with a crowbar. Kara activates flares, and they enter another dark hallway. Fighting off more walkers, Jason eventually falls to a lower level, leaving Kara to pick up the crossbow and try to help him by shooting from above. Eventually Kara is knocked over the railing by a walker and the crossbow is retrieved by Jason, who resumes using it. They make their way to the library, which is apparently empty, but are attacked by more walkers, and Jason drops the crossbow again. They are then saved by Lewis, who says they need to get out.
"Chapter 2"[]
Lewis suggests getting to the bus in the courtyard, and the other two agree. After killing the walkers swarming into the library, Lewis states the others are trying to start the bus and leave without them. The group, with the help of some flaming crossbow bolts, fights their way to the cafeteria and takes refuge in the kitchen. They are attacked by more walkers, including one in riot gear which Jason kills with a pipe, afterward escaping the kitchen and barricading the door with the pipe. They proceed to fight their way to the motor pool with more flaming bolts, and clear the walkers in it using a set of knives, however, when Lewis tries to open a garage door for them to get out, all three garage doors open and allow a horde of walkers in. Jason eventually shoots one of the doors, closing it, and they retreat out of the motor pool and barricade the door, needing another way to the courtyard. They clamber across boxes and through an air vent into a dark storage room, which they fight their way through until they escape through another air vent into a lit up hallway, and flee into a locked courtyard containing more walkers, including several in riot gear. As they fight the walkers, Lewis attempts to help by throwing a grenade, but Jason points out it is a smoke grenade as it goes off, obscuring their vision. They fight the walkers with melee weapons, Jason using a mallet, and eventually kill them by blowing up a propane tank. After this, a blonde woman opens the door to the outside and tells them to hurry.
"Chapter 3"[]
The blonde woman leads them to another courtyard, where others are working on the bus and holding back walkers. She tells them the battery is dead and they cannot hold the walkers back much longer. As she says this, the fence breaks and walkers pour in, causing the defenders to run off. Jason fights the walkers, but their numbers are overwhelming, even with Lewis giving him more flaming bolts. Jason and Kara are eventually forced into a small room, where they find a bag full of hatchets, and enter the boiler room, where they find a man being attacked by walkers. They save him, but he is ungrateful and rude to them. The three enter a dark hallway and light their way using flares, After being attacked by more walkers, which they kill, they enter a shower room and hear a woman screaming. The man suggests leaving, but Kara says they have to help her. They kill the walkers in the room and save the woman, whose name is Hollie. The four fight their way into a laundry room, which they are locked in, but they manage to force a door open by blowing up another propane tank. After the man reprimands Kara for nearly getting him killed, she fires back that she saved his life. They get into another cell block, where Kara finds a nail gun, which Jason takes. They make their way to the second floor, but Jason is separated from the other three. As he tries to get to them, the rude man is knocked over the railing, and is left holding on while the walkers below reach up toward him. As Hollie tries to pull him up, he grabs her and throws her over the railing to the walkers. As they begin eating her, he drops down and runs away. Kara points out that he killed Hollie, and refuses to let him get away. They follow him out of the cell block and into another walker infested courtyard, where they see him removing the battery from a damaged bus. Kara climbs on to a fence, and Jason throws her his crossbow, then proceeds to throw several propane tanks around and have her shoot them, killing many walkers. Kara jumps on to the gazebo, but falls off and on to the ground, while Jason has managed to find a pole which he kills walkers with. As they fight their way to the bus, Jason loses the pole when he throws it through a walker's head, then tells Kara to block the entrance in the fence that walkers are coming through by taking out the tower. He throws a propane tank, and she blows it up, which knocks down the tower and blocks the hole, crushing several walkers and knocking them over.
"Chapter 4"[]
Jason and Kara get up, and Jason retrieves his crossbow. They fight their way to the bus, now on fire, as the man, having retrieved the battery, escapes, the fire blocking them from him. They follow him out of the courtyard into an administrative area, where he throws Molotov cocktails at them, insisting he will get on the bus. They pursue him through the area and into a hallway, and Jason eventually corners him at the edge of a broken railing. He orders Jason to stay back, then slips over as Jason grabs the battery. He falls off, and is left to be eaten by walkers. Jason gives the battery to Kara, and she says they need to hurry. They get back to the courtyard, where they climb a scaffolding to avoid the walkers, but Kara falls off, while Jason manages to climb on to the roof of a nearby building. From there, he shoots the walkers before they get too close to Kara as she runs to the bus. She makes it and hands the battery to a man repairing the bus, after which the blonde woman, from on top of the bus, tells him to open the gate so they can drive out. He does, using a crowbar to kill the walkers nearby and pull a board off, but this allows a horde outside to come in. He climbs a fence separating them from the rest of the courtyard, but they quickly knock it over. He runs to the bus, where the man working on it tells him to hold the walkers back while the bus is repaired. The man finishes repairing the bus, but as both he and Jason climb on to the hood, he is pulled off by a few walkers, and bitten and eaten. Jason is also pulled off and surrounded by walkers, but he is saved by Lewis, who is then pulled under the bus and killed by more walkers. He climbs a shelf next to the bus, climbs on to the roof, where the blonde woman yells at him to help her. He tries to, but she is pulled off by more walkers, and runs to the back of the bus. Jason enters the bus through a hatch and opens the back door for the woman, but she is eaten before she can get in. He closes the door, walks to the drivers seat and calls for Kara. She makes it to the door, but is knocked over and eaten despite his attempts to save her. Killing a few more walkers, he closes the door, and drives the bus out the gate, alone, seemingly oblivious to the one walker in the back, having entered through the now open back door.

Trivia[]
- Despite the arcade game supposedly taking place before the arrival of Rick's group, there are many discrepancies that say otherwise.
- When Rick's group arrived there were no signs of people having lived there before and the fences were up which contradicts what the game shows with the fences being down.
- The outdoor dining area that is shown in Season 4 can be seen in this game.
- When the survivors reach the cafeteria, the prisoners are no where to be found.
- Furthermore, the layout of the cafeteria is radically different that what was seen in the show.
- The game directly contradicts an observation made by Daryl in the episode "Seed", where most of the walkers inside are either prisoners or prison guards. In the arcade game, there is a mix of zombies wearing civilian clothes, riot gear, and prison jumpsuits.
- A possibility is that this actually takes place during the events of "Too Far Gone" as that is when a massive herd of walkers storms the prison. Furthermore, there seems to be a large group in the prison at this time and some of the characters don't seem to know each other which would make sense given the situation.
- The only discrepancies here is that watchtowers are shown collapsing, which only occurs in the video game and not on the show.
- Furthermore, if it were to take place during this time then there shouldn't be any walkers dressed in riot gear or prison jumpsuits as they'd all have been presumably exterminated by the prison residents.
- The arcade machine makes an appearance in the music video for Holy Smokes by Trippie Redd and Lil Uzi Vert.[2]
