Season three begins in spring, with the group scavenging a house in an unknown Georgia town. They are low on food, tired, and have constantly been on the run since Day 83 of the Global Outbreak. It was autumn at the end of season two, and the group survived the winter moving house-to-house, living off whatever food they could hunt or scavenge, and "going in circles," as pointed out by T-Dog. (s3 ep1) The group leaves the house after stopping to eat lunch (an owl, a jar of peanut butter, and packets of mustard - Rick won't allow Carl to eat the cans of dog food he's found in the house's cupboards) when more walkers show up. They decide they'll circle back to a town they've picked through already, before heading west via Newnan, Georgia, to avoid the Herd - which is at least 150 strong by now. T-Dog and the women wash their clothes and collect water while Daryl and Rick go to hunt. Instead, they find a prison complex and Rick formulates a plan to "take the field by nightfall." The group is extremely successful and they celebrate with a campfire sing-along, but Rick tells them tomorrow they'll have to get inside the prison where there should be food and medicine, and maybe even a loaded armory. (s3 ep1) Lori is overdue to give birth; at least 270 days have passed since the pregnancy was conceived (s3 ep2). When speaking to Carol while taking watch in the field that night, Daryl refers to the baby as "Little Shane," (s3 ep1) indicating that the baby was conceived at some point before Rick was reunited with his family on Day 61, and the group is aware of this. The baby is potentially one of the reasons that Rick and Lori are barely speaking, coupled with their combined guilt over Shane's death. |

Rick, Daryl, T-Dog, Glenn, and Maggie battle walkers beyond the fence gates in an attempt to clear the prison and get inside. They encounter walkers in riot gear. It makes them much harder to kill because the survivors have to get close enough to pull the riot masks off. The group successfully gets inside the prison, where they find a dead security guard and take his keys. They find a secure cell block and the group moves in. Rick and Lori can hardly look at each other, and Lori tearfully tells Hershel that she knows Rick and Carl hate her. (s3 ep1) Lori also tells Hershel that she hasn't felt the baby kick and she's worried that it's stillborn and will reanimate inside her and tear her apart. She also worries that she may die in childbirth, as many women did before the advent of modern medicine, and asks Hershel to shoot her immediately if she dies and then reanimates. (s3 ep1) Elsewhere, Andrea is deathly ill and being cared for by Michonne in a deer locker, located in a small town overrun with walkers. Michonne knows they need to leave the area, but she wants to wait until Andrea is better. Andrea wants her to go without her, knowing she's close to death for lack of medicine, but Michonne won't abandon her. Andrea concedes they should just leave anyway, knowing otherwise she'll die there. The women set out with Michonne's jawless, armless walker "pets" in tow. (s3 ep1) |

Rick, Daryl, T-Dog, Glenn, Maggie, and Hershel start searching the prison for the cafeteria, but dozens of walkers come after them in the dark, thin corridors of the abandoned prison. The group tries to run back to safety, away from the walkers, but Glenn and Maggie get separated from the group and take cover inside an empty room. The others get to safety, but at Hershel's insistence they don't think twice about heading back through the halls to look for them. Hershel's leg is bitten by a zombie that appeared to be a corpse, but awoke when Hershel walked passed it. (s3 ep1) The group carries Hershel into the cafeteria, which strangely had its door locked with handcuffs from the outside, they enter the cafeteria with Daryl and T-Dog barricading the walkers outside the door. Rick chops off Hershel's leg to prevent the infection from spreading, and Hershel passes out. Figures rise from behind a barred window, and Daryl trains his arrow on them, assuming they're more walkers. But one of the five figures, a blond man with a mustache, mutters, "Holy shit." (s3 ep1) Daryl and T-Dog lead the prisoners - Tomas, Andrew, Big Tiny, Oscar, and Axel - out of a locked room, and Tomas emerges brandishing a pistol. But the group hardly pays any attention to them as they tend to Hershel's leg, carrying him out of the cafeteria as the dumbfounded prisoners look on. They take Hershel to Cell Block C, where Carol and Lori tend to his injuries and Maggie and Beth look on in tears. Rick asks Glenn to stay behind and comfort Maggie in case Hershel dies, while Beth sets to work tearing the legs off his pants. The prisoners arrive at the cell block and a standoff with Daryl ensues until Rick arrives to break it up. The prisoners have been locked in a room for 294 days and appear to have no idea what's been going on. Tomas tries to threaten Rick into giving him back Cell Block C, but Rick won't let it happen. Rick, Daryl, and T-Dog agrees to help the prisoners clear the walkers from another cell block in exchange for half the food supply. Carl goes alone and finds the prison infirmary to get gauze bandages for Hershel, killing two walkers. When Lori gets upset because something might have happened to him, he lashes out at her. But Hershel soon stops breathing, and Carl witnesses his mother risk her life to give him mouth-to-mouth to save his life. Glenn helps Carol kill walkers in the prison yard so she can practice a caesarian surgery, because it's expected that Lori will need one when she gives birth, and though Hershel has been teaching her things as his nurse, he hasn't yet taught her this. Someone is watching her from the bushes outside the prison gates. While clearing walkers from another cell block for the prisoners, Big Tiny is scratched by one, and murdered in cold blood by Tomas while the group discusses whether or not they could save him. Tomas then unleashes another horde of walkers on the group, intentionally pushing walkers in Rick's direction in a fruitless attempt to kill him. Rick kills him instantly with a machete. Andrew attacks Rick before running away and into a walker-infested courtyard. Rick follows him and locks the door, leaving Andrew at the mercy of the walkers despite his pleas for help. Rick, T-Dog, and Daryl leave Oscar and Axel in their newly cleared cell block and return to Block C, where they learn that Lori saved Hershel's life. Rick is relieved, and it softens him towards his wife. They have a civil conversation on the bridge inside the prison, where Lori opines, "We got food. Hershel's alive. Today was a good day." He touches her shoulder as he thanks her for saving Hershel's life, in the closest sign of affection he's given her in eight months, but he's still unable to look at her; unable to talk about their marriage. Michonne and Andrea discover the town of Woodbury, and meet The Governor. Michonne kills her pet walkers, which are then experimented on by a man named Milton. Merle and Andrea are reunited. Two soldiers are killed in a helicopter crash. The third, Lt. Welles, is brought in and questioned. Later, The Governor tracks down the remaining soldiers, pretending to be friendly by waving a white flag. He then has his men kill them, so that he can take their supplies. When the day is over, The Governor walks into an empty room. He stares at aquariums full of floating walker heads, while drinking a glass of Scotch. Among the heads is Lt. Welles. (s3 ep3) |

Oscar and Axel clear out their cell block "all week". The group eats food and sleeps. They pile some walker bodies in the prison field. Andrew creeps around the prison spying on the survivors. Glenn and Maggie have some alone time in the guard tower. (s3 ep4) |

Glenn and Maggie continue to have sex in the guard tower. They leave and Glenn apologizes to them and everyone starts moving cars around to begin their future plans. Rick, T-Dog, Daryl and Carol discuss how they are going to clear the courtyard. Axel and Oscar show up and Rick tells them to either take the deal that was made, or leave. Meanwhile Lori, Carl, and Beth get Hershel and take him for a walk so he can practice walking with crutches. Rick, Daryl, and Glenn begin to kill zombies and set wood in a new section of the fence. Glenn cheers for Herschel and Daryl tells him to keep it down. Rick watches in fear at what happens next, Carl warns the group - which is all in one section of the fence - about the walkers that have gotten in. Everyone starts killing zombies and T-Dog realizes the gate is open. Lori, Maggie, and Carl go into their part of the prison and rush inside, but they can't get to safety. They rush down a hall and into a boiler room, in the process Lori goes into labor. Hershel and Beth hide in a fenced off small opening by a closed door, they are safe from the chaos. Rick and Daryl rush to the main gates where T-Dog and Carol are as Glenn shuts the section of the gates they were just in. Glenn catches up to Rick and Daryl. As the three enter and begin killing walkers, the alarms go off so they shoot them. T-Dog locks the gate that is open and is bitten in the neck. He kills the walker, then him and Carol rush inside where he tells her he wants to turn and be in a cell block in peace. Rick kills the walkers and tells Glenn and Daryl he suspects the prisoners did it. The prisoners try to resist and say they didn't. As the five of them (including the two prisoners) head into their cell block (C) they talk and Rick tells them someone is playing games with them. Oscar tells the other four that he'll lead them to the room where they can shut the alarms off. Lori tries to give birth without a C-section, but can't. She says her sad farewells to Carl and tells Maggie that she has to be shot afterwards. Carl and Lori say goodbye and Maggie cuts Lori open. She gets the baby out and pats the babies back slightly harsh so the baby can breathe. Meanwhile, Carol and T-Dog see a group of walkers when heading to their cell. Carol tries to shoot one, but is out of ammo. T-Dog rushes into the crowd and tells Carol to leave, which she does. In the meantime, Rick and company go into the generator room. Andrew comes at Rick with an axe before he can shut the alarms off. In the process, Rick drops his gun and Oscar gets it. Daryl keeps the door shut, but lets two walkers in, killing both and shutting the door once more. Oscar points the gun at Rick, Andrew telling him to shoot him so they could take back the prison. Daryl sets something in front of the door so he can kill Oscar if needed to. He sneaks up on Oscar, but Oscar shoots Andrew and hands Rick his gun, Rick nods. Meanwhile, Maggie tries to leave with the baby, but there are walkers outside the door. She turns to see if Carl is okay, and a gunshot goes off. He walks by her and she sees his heartbroken face. At Woodbury, Michonne and Andrea talk out about leaving. Merle gets a lead on Daryl, and talks to The Governor. The Governor tells Merle he'll help him find Daryl if he gets more "concrete information." Andrea has a drink with The Governor and he tells her his wife died in a car crash 18 months before the epidemic spread and mentions his daughter, Penny. Maggie and Carl head out to the main gate. Rick finds T-Dog's corpse and Daryl sees Carol's headband and suspects she is dead. The five head to the main gate, Hershel and Beth come out now that it is safe. Rick hears a baby crying and turns to see Maggie come into the view. Glenn comforts her and Rick starts crying, realizing that his wife is dead. (s3 ep4) Daryl decides that he'll go get baby food, saying the baby won't die. Maggie decides she'll go with him. Daryl and Maggie go to a daycare. Maggie gets formula and several bottles for the baby, while Daryl kills a possum. Rick goes on a rampage. He reaches the room where Lori had labor and discovers his wife's blood on the floor, along with a bullet but no body. A few feet away is a zombie with a bloated stomach. Realizing that it ate Lori, Rick kills it, stabbing it in the gut numerous times. The Governor throws a party in Woodbury to celebrate how far they've come. Later, he is seen combing his daughter's hair, and she tries to bite him. Michonne goes off on her own after getting her weapon back and sees some marks in a notebook owned by The Governor. She lets loose several captive walkers, she kills them with her katana. Someone sees her and she is brought to The Governor to have a talk. When talking, she puts her katana at his throat and after a moment, brings it down. The Governor tells Andrea that Michonne is scaring other people in Woodbury. Andrea and Michonne decide they'll leave, but after the gate opens Andrea decides not to leave. Michonne leaves. Meanwhile, Merle and other men capture some walkers whereas Milton gets some information. (s3e5) |

The Governor "plays" with Penny. She gets annoyed after her hair gets tangled, tearing a part of skin & hair from the skull, and tries to bite her father. (s3e6) Neil, Crowley, and Tim die during their hunt to capture Michonne. Michonne escapes, but is severely wounded. She encounters Glenn and Maggie at a nearby town but does not interact with them. Merle, who was part of the Woodbury hunting party, captures Glenn and Maggie and brings them to Woodbury. Michonne takes the infant formula previously discovered by Glenn and Maggie and takes it to the prison. Merle lies to The Governor about Michonne's escape. (s3e6) Daryl, Oscar, and Carl decide to "clean" the prison of walkers previously let loose the day before. They discover a moving door blocked a body of a dead walker and ignore it. A walker with Carol's knife attacks them. Daryl returns to the moving door and opens it. Carol stares at him. Andrea argues with The Governor about the lifestyle in Woodbury. She then volunteers to guard the fence where she would meet Haley. Haley and Andrea bond by telling each other their stories: Haley killed her father and Andrea killed her sister. They giggle cheerily. At the end of the day, Andrea reports with The Governor about her experience. They have sex. (s3e6) Rick "talks" to Amy, Jim, Jacqui, and Lori via phone. They tell him that they are now in a "safe place" and that he should take care of "his" baby. Rick obliges and returns to the group. He discovers Michonne outside the prison. (s3e6) Rick rescues Michonne after the walkers begin attacking her. She is brought inside the prison and is given medical attention after she is interrogated. Rick discovers that Carol is alive and is overjoyed. The group finds out through Michonne that Glenn and Maggie were captured. The group decides to rescue them with a team comprising of Rick, Daryl, Oscar, and Michonne. (s3e7) Merle tortures Glenn so that he could find information regarding his brother. Glenn refuses to cooperate and is given a walker to "play" with. Glenn kills the walker. Maggie is on the other room hearing all of the commotion. The Governor decides to entertain himself and ask Maggie to be naked. She confesses the information about the prison after The Governor threatened to shoot Glenn. (s3e7) Rick's platoon enters the woods and decides to go on foot. The group is cornered by walkers and is forced to take shelter inside a shack. A hermit living there gets confused by the their sudden appearance and decides to run towards the walkers outside. Michonne kills him. The group continue their trek towards Woodbury. (s3e7) Andrea and Milton conduct an experiment on Michael Coleman, a terminally-ill prostrate cancer patient living in Woodbury. Once his dead, he turns into a walker and attacks Milton. Unable to defend himself, Andrea saves him. The two report to The Governor about their findings. (s3e7) Tyreese and his band are cornered in the woods. Donna is bitten. They reach the prison and decide to enter it. (s3e8) |

Tyreese and his crew are rescued by Carl. Donna is killed by Tyreese before she turns. (s3e8) Glenn and Maggie try to escape but fail and are recaptured. (s3e8) Rick and his platoon sneak into Woodbury. Michonne suddenly dissapears. The team finds Glenn and Maggie and successfully rescues them. They become trapped into a building and are forced to fight their way out. A firefight occurs between Rick's platoon and the Woodbury Army. "Shane" appears and kills Oscar. Daryl disappears. Rick escapes with Glenn and Maggie. (s3e8) Michonne reappears inside The Governor's house. She meets Penny and kills her. She also attacks The Governor's eye. Andrea sees her and is shocked. Michonne leaves. (s3e8) The Governor is treated by Dr. Alice Stevens. His inner circle: Andrea, Milton, Merle, Caesar Martinez, and Haley are present and they comfort him. The Governor realizes that Merle is not to be trusted. (s3e8) Rick's platoon rendezvous outside Woodbury. Rick interrogates Michonne but decides to defer punishment. The four plan on how to find Daryl. (s3e8) A meeting is held in the arena. The Governor, Caesar Martinez, the remaining members of the Woodbury Army, Milton, Andrea, Haley, and the rest of Woodbury's citizens are present. Merle is taken into custody for treason. Daryl reappears. Andrea is shocked. (s3e8) Rick and Maggie rescue Daryl and Merle. Haley is killed. The fence in Woodbury is breached. (s3e9) |

Chaos erupts in Woodbury. Richard Foster is killed by walkers who breached into the town. Daryl and Merle separate from Rick's group. Donna is buried. Rick's party arrives at the prison. While scanning the prison, Rick sees and apparation of Lori. Rick runs to meet her on the outskirts of the prison. Michonne watches, confused. Glenn takes charge now that Rick and Daryl are gone. Glenn makes the decision to fortify the prison. He also takes Carl to the area to see where Tyreese said that the walkers had breached. The return to the group with the knowledge that the tombs are overrun again. (s3e10) Merle and Daryl are in a forest searching for food. Merle predicts that The Governor has slaughtered the inhabitants of the prison. Merle also suspects that Daryl is trying to go back to the prison. Daryl hears screams from a baby. Upon further investigation, they find a group fighting walkers on a highway. Daryl and Merle helps the foreign group survive. Daryl points his crossbow at Merle when he tries to loot their car. The group drives away.(s3e10) The Governor askes Andrea to take over Woodbury for a while, however Andrea is unsure whether she can uphold the position. The Governor checks in on Milton to assure his loyalty. The Governor and then asks Milton to keep tabs on Andrea. Later, Andrea asks Milton for The Governor's whereabouts and Milton makes a poor attempt to avoid her question. (s3e10) Daryl makes the decision to go back to the prison. Merle argues that Rick won't allow Merle to stay there. During the argument, Merle rips off Daryl's jacket and discovers scars from when Daryl was beaten by their father. (s3e10) Back at the prision, Hershel tries to stop Glenn leaving but he is unsuccessful. He approaches Rick and asks him to come back to the prison. Rick declines but he tells Hershel that he is seeing Lori. Meanwhile, Carol and Axel talk about Axel's brother. Shortly after the conversation starts, Axel is shot and killed by The Governor who is in the outskirts of the prison. Rick takes cover against fire from a Woodbury soldier. Beth and Carl take cover behind a wall against a Woodbuy soldier in a guard tower. Carol uses Axel's body as cover. Maggie brings guns out from the prison and she kills the guard in the tower. There is a silence of gunfire and a van breaks through into the prison yard. The van is a "Walker Bomb" and it deploys walkers that were kept in the van into the yard. The driver runs away unharmed. Rick, who is out of ammo, is saved by Merle and Daryl. The Govenor and his remaining soldiers leave the prision. Rick, Merle and Daryl make it through the yard to the cell block. (s3e10) |

Merle, Daryl and Rick make it into the prison. Rick decides that the group should make a stand against The Governor. Hershel makes an attempt to bring Rick back to reality. Carl voices his opinion about his father and asks him to stop being the leader so that Rick can rest. (s3e11) The Governor prepares an army for an assault on the prison. Andrea asks him for permission to visit the prison. Andrea enlists in Milton's help in taking her to the prison without anyone knowing. (s3e11) The group argues about Merle staying in the prison. Hershel and Rick argue that he is Daryl's brother and that he has military experience. Hershel discovers that Merle read the bible in Woodbury. Merle also predicts how The Governor will kill the group. (s3e11) Milton informs The Governor about Andrea's plans and The Governor tells him to help her. Milton assists Andrea in amputating a walker's arms and removing it's teeth so Andrea could use it as camouflage similar to the way Michonne did. Andrea and Milton encounter Tyreese's group. Milton takes them back to Woodbury. (s3e11) Carl and Maggie see Andrea through the binoculars. Carl informs the rest of the group. Andrea is greeted with caution due to the recent attack on the prison. She is searched by Rick. Andrea discovers the death of Shane, Lori, T-Dog, Jimmy and Patricia. She also discovers that Hershel was bit and that his leg was amputated. Carol tells Andrea that Rick killed Shane. The majority of the group aren't friendly towards Andrea. Michonne informs Andrea that The Governor ordered Michonne's death. Andrea also meets Judith. Carol asks Andrea to kill The Governor while he sleeps. Andrea is given a car and she leaves to go back to Woodbury. (s3e11) The Governor greets Tyreese's group. Tyreese tells The Governor that they were at the prison and that Rick seemed unhinged. Tyreese offers to help with the fight against Rick's group so that Tyreese's group can earn their keep. (s3e11) Andrea returns to Woodbury and informs The Governor that she went to the prison. Later that night, after Andrea has slept with The Governor, she gets out of bed and picks up her knife. She moves over to Phillip but she finds that she is unable to murder him. (s3e11) Rick makes plans to go out for a run the following day with Carl and Michonne to find weapons to match Woodbury's firepower.(s3e11) |

Rick, Carl and Michonne drive down to Rick's old police station in search of guns. On the way the see a hitchhicker which they ignore. About a minute later they get stuck in the mud and their car is surrounded by walkers. They clear them out and move the car out of the mud. They drive away as the hitchhiker comes into view. When they arrive at the police station, they find the place completely looted. Rick suggest checking bars that Rick signed permits for. (s3e12) While searching for guns, the group finds a street filled with walker traps and warnings. Upon further investigation, they are apprehended by the owner of the street. A fight occurs between the owner and Rick's group. Carl shoots the man and he is knocked unconsious due to his body armour. Upon futher investigation, Rick discovers that the man is Morgan Jones. (s3e12) In Morgan's apartment, they find a large amount of guns and ammunition. Rick finds a message on a wall saying that Duane turned. Carl asks to go get a crib for Judith and Michonne accompanies him. (s3e12) Carl tries to distract Michonne so he can run away. When Michonne catches up to him it is revealed that he wants to get a picture of Lori for Judith from a cafe. Michonne helps him by putting caged rats on a skateboard and pushing them into the cafe to distract the walkers. Carl grabs the photo but he drops it when he and Michonne are attacked by walkers due to a loose rat. Once the make it outside, Michonne asks Carl to keep the door closed. Michonne sneaks around the back and picks up the picture and a piece of artwork. (s3e12) When Morgan wakes up, he doesn't know who Rick is and he stabs Rick. Rick restrains him and he shows Morgan his walkie-talkie. Morgan remembers Rick and informs him that Jenny killed Duane. Morgan gives Rick guns and ammunition but he declines Rick's offer to go to the prison. (s3e12) Rick, Carl and Michonne leave. On the way back to the prison they find the Hitchhiker's remains. Having driven past the bag, they stop, backup and Carl picks up the bag and they continue back to the prison. (s3e12) |

Rick and the prison crew unload the guns and supplies from the car in the prison yard. A scout watches them and returns to Woodbury. Andrea decides to set up a meeting between Rick and The Governor. (s3e13) |

Early in the morning The Governor arrives at the meeting place to hide a gun and conceal some whiskey. Rick, Daryl and Hershel arrive at the meeting, followed by Andrea, Martinez and Milton. The Governor and Rick meet for the first time to discuss their situation. The Governor admits that he knew Rick returned with guns "the other day" implying it was three days ago. After a long conversation, The Governor tells Rick to give up Michonne so he will leave the prison group alone. He will have two days to think about the offer, and they will meet again in that same farm store by noon. Hershel meets Milton and Daryl meets Martinez. After the meeting, the two groups go back to their respective homes. Rick informs the prison group that they are going to war against Woodbury. The Governor informs Martinez to ambush the prison group at the next meeting, he wants everyone dead, except Michonne. Milton is against this plan. Rick and Hershel talk in the prison catwalk, Rick reveals The Governor's true offer of giving up Michonne. (s3e13) |

The Governor prepares a torture room for Michonne inside the shacks in Woodbury, Milton once again tries to convince him against this idea, but fails. Milton secretly tells Andrea about the true deal that The Governor is making, she decides to kill The Governor, but Milton tells her to go back to the prison and tell her group to get out of there as fast as they can. Andrea leaves Woodbury after convincing Tyreese and Sasha to let her go, they decide to report to The Governor that she escaped and he decides to go after her. Tyreese and his group are requested to help in capturing walkers from the pit, Tyreese and Allen have a discussion about Donna. The Governor finds out that Milton told Andrea about the offer of Rick giving up Michonne, he gets in his car and leaves to go after her. At the pits, Tyreese and Allen have another discussion and Tyreese nearly kills Allen, Shumpert takes them back to Woodbury and they decide to take the captured walkers later. The Governor spots Andrea running through a field and pursuits her in his car, but she runs inside a forest and escapes. (s3e14) |

Andrea comes across an abandoned warehouse and The Governor spots her again, she runs inside the warehouse and he follows her. After an intense pursuit, Andrea releases a small herd of walkers on The Governor, as he is cornered inside the warehouse, Andrea makes her escape and continue her journey to reach the prison. Milton heads to the walkers pits with gasoline and a lighter, he sets all the walkers on fire and leaves. (s3e14) |

Shumpert arrives at the walkers pits only to find all of them burned, he goes back to Woodbury and reports to Martinez. Andrea finally reaches the prison, as she tries to wave to Rick in the guard tower, The Governor returns after surviving the herd in the warehouse and tackles her to the ground. Rick fails to spot them and The Governor drags Andrea away. The Governor returns to Woodbury and secretly locks Andrea inside the torture room meant for Michonne. After leaving, Martinez reports that he thinks that Tyreese set the walkers in the pit on fire, The Governor talks to Tyreese and his group only to find out that they didn't do it. After leaving, Milton tells The Governor that he hopes he find out who burned the walkers in the pit, The Governor realizes that it was Milton. (s3e14) |

Rick tells Hershel and Daryl that they are going to give up Michonne by noon, and that Merle is the one assigned to complete the job. Rick and Merle have a conversation, Rick heads outside and finds out that Michonne had ideas to build barricades in the prison yard to stop The Governor in case he attacks the prison. Merle watches them from inside the prison and has a conversation with Carol, he then goes to the generator room to prepare to capture Michonne. Daryl looks for Merle, Glenn refuses to talk about Merle, still angry at him. Daryl finds Merle inside the generator room, they have a conversation, both believing that Rick will soon give up on the idea of giving Michonne to The Governor. Merle takes Michonne to a mission inside the tombs, but it was a plan to capture and take her captive, they head to the farm store to meet with The Governor. Rick changes his mind about giving up Michonne, Merle finds a car, he and Michonne use the car to get to the meeting faster. After searching through the prison, Rick and Daryl find out that Merle already took Michonne, Daryl decides to go after them, and tells Rick to prepare for what's coming next. Michonne convinces Merle to let her go, Merle heads to the meeting alone. On the way, he stops by a bar to have a drink, he plays loud music in his car and creates a herd while making his way to the meeting. Michonne meets Daryl on her way back to the prison, Daryl decides to go after Merle and Michonne continues her path. Merle tries to ambush The Governor and his men, killing several of them, but The Governor ends up killing Merle and they head back to Woodbury. Rick talks to the group about voting in stay and fighting for the prison or leave and try their chances on the road, Michonne arrives back at the prison. Daryl arrives at the farm store and witnesses the carnage. Between the walkers eating the corpse of dead Woodbury soldiers is the zombified Merle. Daryl kills his walker brother and breaks down in tears. (s3e15) |

The Governor keeps Milton captive in the shacks an beats him up, he then takes Milton to the torture room where Andrea is and stabs him in the stomach, leaving him to die, reanimate and kill her. The prison group prepare an ambush to the Woodbury army when they arrive. The Governor and the Woobury army head to the prison, except for Tyreese and Sasha, who decided to stay and defend Woodbury. The Woodbury army arrive at the prison and they break in, exploring the tombs. Milton tells Andrea that he left a tool behind the chair where she is handcuffed, Andrea tries to get the tool to set herself free as Milton dies. The Woodbury Army is ambushed by the prison group and they escape the prison scared. The Governor and his thugs go after them. One lost Woodbury soldier runs through the forest and spots Carl, Hershel and Beth, Carl kills the soldier without hesitation. Rick and the group celebrate as they managed to scare the Woodbury Army away, they check-in on the rest of the group, Hershel reveals that Carl shot someone in cold blood. The Governor reaches his army and orders them to go back to the prison and fight, they refuse to fight and The Governor kills everybody at cold blood (except Martinez and Shumpert). The three man drive off to an unknown location. Rick, Michonne and Daryl decide to go to Woodbury and end the war, on the way, they discover the Woodbury Army dead by the road, only with one survivor, Karen. Andrea manages to grab the tool from the ground, but Milton reanimates and bites her before she can set herself free. (s3e16) |

Rick, Daryl, Michonne and Karen arrive at Woodbury. Tyreese and Sasha shoot at them, but Karen reveals that they are friendly and that The Governor killed everyone. They decide to search for Andrea inside Woodbury, only to find her dying from the bite inside the torture room. Andrea shoots herself after saying goodbye to Rick, Daryl and Michonne. Rick takes one of the buses used as barricade in the streets and they take all the remaining Woodbury citizens to the prison. (s3e16) |

Rick, Daryl, Michonne, Tyreese, Sasha, Karen and about 15 Woodbury survivors arrive at the prison. They are welcomed in by the group as Rick approaches Carl and tells him that the Woodbury survivors are now joining them, fulfilling Andrea's wishes of everyone living together in peace. (s3e16). Martinez and Shumpert leave the Governor alone in his tent, he returns to Woodbury in an Army vehicle and sets fire to the town (s4e6). |

Rick walks out of the fence and begins to dig up dirt so he can plant some herbs, but instead finds a gun buried. After staring at it, and seeing a zombie with bleeding eyes, he throws the gun into his wheelbarrow, and continues on. Carol and Daryl talk when Carol serves food, and she hands the shift over to Patrick. Patrick shakes Daryl's hand, and Daryl and Carol have a talk about how they won't be safe for long unless the get a move ahead with the walkers pressing up against the fences more and more lately. Next to the fences, a large herd comes in, and a group of people - including Karen - are using weapons to kill them and trying to keep the fence standing. Tyreese comes over and begins talking to Karen, through what they say, it is eventually evident they have started dating. Tyreese admits he is going on a run, just before Michonne enters. Michonne gives Carl a pile of comics, and Rick a razor blade, and she decides to go on the run to. Glenn wakes up and tells Maggie he doesn't think she should go on the run for supplies like everybody else, she eventually agrees and decides to stay. Daryl prepares for the trip, and overhears Beth and Zack talking, it is clear they are dating as well, and Zack asks Beth if she will say goodbye, but she simply refuses and walks on. Daryl leads the group to their location, and there Zack makes a fun guess at what Daryl's life was prior to the outbreak: an undercover cop. Michonne breaks out in laughter, and Daryl agrees to Zack in a joking manner, and Zack simply says he'll try again later. Daryl pounds on the glass, revealing several walkers inside. They kill the walkers, but what they don't see is that a helicopter has crashed on the roof, weakening the structure of the building a large amount. Hershel gets Rick to take his gun out when he is scavenging for food, although Rick is hesitant at first. Rick collects some food and sees what looks like a female walker, but as he walks away and accidentally steps on a twig, the 'walker' begins to talk. Rick turns in astonishment and sees it is just a really dirty woman, she begs him for food or a place in his group, and he hands her some food, telling her if he and her husband that she mentioned can answer his three questions good enough, they can be part of the group. On the walk to Eddie - Clara's husband - Clara tells Rick a story about how Eddie has kept her alive all this time. In the store, Bob walks by a shelf of alcohol, and tries to stop himself, but grabs one and almost snatches it, but sets it down, knocking the shelf down and getting stuck under it. The ceiling becomes loose as Daryl hurries to help Bob, and walkers start falling through. Everyone hurries to be safe, but some are unlucky and run into situations. Glenn is tackled down by two walkers, and barely survives by grabbing his gun next to his head and shooting the first in the head, and bashing the others' head open. Walkers come at Bob from the front and back, he doesn't see the back one, and instead calls for help as the front walker gains way towards Bob. Bob rips the front one's head open and carefully tries to rip out it's brain in an urgent manner of killing it. At the prison, Carl and Patrick head over to see a group of more kids younger than them laughing at walkers after naming them. Carl tells them not to name the walkers, and claims they are not human when a girl says they are. The group leaves, and Patrick tells Carl he is going to get some rest for the day, he also admits he is going to story time because he is immature and wants to enjoy helping the younger children. Back in the woods, Clara asks Rick if he thinks that they can take back what they've done wrong, and Rick admits he hopes they can. Clara gets Rick to her camp, where she rushes over to a bag and talks to it, Rick looks at her like she is crazy. In the store, Daryl grabs the walker attacking Bob from the front and kicks it's head in, Zack rushes over and helps lift up the shelf so Bob can escape, only to have the walker from behind bite Zack in the ankle from behind. Daryl sees a plane start to fall, which he saw when he was killing walkers earlier, and they watch Zack fall to his death bed and the walker bite his neck area a second time. Daryl leads the group out, and he is the last behind, and just barely dodges the plane that crashes in the background. Rick sees a canvas tent in Clara's home, and turns to see her run at him with a knife, he tells her she shouldn't have done that and gets his gun out, but Clara stabs herself. Clara asks Rick what the three questions were, and he asks how many walkers she has killed, to which she replies Eddie killed all the walkers. Rick then asks how many humans she has killed, and she admits 'Just Me...', and Rick asks her why she did that. Clara admits she killed herself because you cannot be freed from the bad things you have done, and Rick slowly looks at her like she has just said a bad thing. The group returns to the prison, and Glenn and Maggie talk about the event that happened to Glenn. Maggie reveals she is not pregnant, but says she has hope she can be one day, and Glenn asks her how she could say that after Lori and after the events on the supply run. Maggie tells Glenn she doesn't want to fear being alive, and he hugs her. Daryl breaks the news to Beth about Zack, and she tells him she doesn't cry any more, and that she is happy she met him. She walks over to a board that reads '30 Days Without an Accident', and she takes off the 3 to make '0 Days Without an Accident'. Daryl admits he is tired of loosing people, and Beth hugs him. Tyreese talks to Karen and tells her he cannot find his comfort zone. Carl sees Carol finish a book in story time, and then she grabs a bin of knifes and tells them they will be learning how to use, and be safe, with knifes. Carol catches Carl and begs him not to tell Rick just before Carl rushes off. Patrick is excused because he feels really sick to the point he cannot stay. Late at night, Patrick walks out of his cell and heads to a shower room, where he coughs into the water supply, and turns the shower on. He soon starts to cough more and more, and falls to his death. On the floor, it is revealed he has reanimated into a walker. Late at night, a mysterious person is shown feeding a rat to the fence-walkers. The scene then swaps to Tyreese and Karen in their cell, overlooking their lives and then Tyreese begins playfully singing to her. Karen then roams out of the cell and into the showers, where she hears movement but finds nothing. After she exits, a zombified Patrick rises out of the shower, undetected. He exits the showers and follows her back to the cell block. He stops at her room, but is distracted by the coughing of another person and wanders into his cell and proceeds to bite the man's throat, preventing him from calling for help. |

At dawn, Patrick is finished devouring the man, and the latter soon awakens as a walker. Rick and Carl head out to tend to the pigs and Carl asks if he can help with the fence-cleaners, but Rick shuts the idea down. Carl apologizes and assures his father that he is trying to live normally and asks if he can have his gun back. Before Rick can answer, they hear gunshots. Mika and Lizzie run out of Cell Block D, screaming for help. A horde of walkers have attacked from within and have killed several people. Michonne, who was heading out on a supply run, is alerted of the chaos but gets trapped in the prison gates with two walkers. Just as the walkers manage to overpower her, Carl kills one of them; the other one is kicked off by Michonne and then shot by Maggie. Michonne accidentally injures her leg on one of the snares, but is helped up by Maggie and Carl. In the cell block, the group clears out the walkers. Carol assists Ryan Samuels into a cell after he is bitten on the arm and prepares to amputate it, but not before realizing that he has been bitten on the back of his neck as well. After the threat temporarily clears out, Daryl and Rick comb the area, searching for any lifeless people to mercifully put-down, when Glenn gets attacked by a walker. Daryl is able to shoot it in the head, and realizes that it was Patrick. Rick is initially hesistant about putting the people down, coming out of the first cell shaken and in a daze. Another bloody-eyed walker, Charlie, emerges from a cell and is put down by Rick. They realize that since Charlie locked himself in his cell due to his sleepwalking, that there was no way that he could have been bitten. Rick, Hershel, Dr. Subramanian, Daryl and Bob gather around Charlie's body, noting that he has no bites or scratches. Subramanian recognizes the blood pouring out of Charlie's orifices as an indicator of disease, and Rick mentions Patrick, the bloody-eyed walker, Violet, and the sick boar that he encountered. Glenn suggests that it's a new walker disease, but Subramanian says that he saw cases like this pre-apocalypse. Subramanian explains that diseases like the one that killed Patrick were spread by pigs and birds in the old days and thrive in close quarters, like the cell block. They conclude that everyone in the cell block could be infected by the flu. Ryan realizes that himself is dying, and asks Carol to take care of Lizzie and Mika for him as if they were her own. Carol agrees, but tells him that he has to let them say goodbye to him, before she kills him. As Lizzie and Mika say goodbye, Carol tells them what she has to do but Lizzie volunteers to do it instead. At the last minute, she is unable to stab her father in the head and turns away crying, as Carol takes back the knife and does it herself. Carol, Hershel, Daryl, Sasha and Glenn think of what to do with the people who might have been infected, including a suggestion to quarantine them in Cell Block A; Death row. They then hear coughing outside of the room. It's shown to be coming from Karen, who was walking by with Tyreese. She is told that she must be quarantined in the Tombs while they find out what the cause is. Sasha (as well as Karen herself) calms Tyreese, stating that it's necessary. As she leaves, Karen also mentions that David was coughing as well. Carl and Maggie are carrying Michonne back inside when Rick approaches them. He tells them what happened and assures Maggie that Hershel and Glenn are fine. He says that they must stay away from him for now, due to possibly being infected. Beth is seen dressing Michonne's wound when the latter says that she made a mistake of letting the two walkers get the better of her. She bitterly says that Maggie and Carl should have left her. Beth says now THAT is foolish. People getting hurt is part of living with a group. She muses about those who died, wondering what you call a parent who's lost a child. Michonne begins to tear up but composes herself immediately and Beth doesn't notice. Later, she asks Michonne to hold Judith while she cleans up the mess Judith made on her. Michonne looks at Judith with indifference, but then loses control and weeps while holding Judith close (hinting that something horrible might've happened in her past). Carol goes to talk to Mika and Lizzie, as they stand by the fence. She turns to Lizzie and tells her that Ryan asked her to take care of them and says bluntly that Lizzie is weak, and that in this world she can't be. Lizzie begins crying that they killed him, and Carol realizes that she is referring to Nick, the walker that she named in the previous episode. Lizzie runs away and Mika explains that Lizzie isn't weak, "she's just funny in the head.'' Daryl is digging graves for those who had died when Rick comes by to help. Daryl tells Rick that he's earned his time away from being in a leader position, when Maggie screams for them to follow her; It's shown that a massive group of walkers, drawn by the gunfire from earlier, are converging at a portion of the fence that is about to give way. Despite the efforts of Glenn, Sasha and a few others, there are just too many walkers. Sasha points out the carcasses of several dead rats near the walls, suggesting that someone's been luring the walkers to the fence, which explains why they are clustering together, instead of spreading out. Rick, getting an idea on what to do, tells Daryl to get one of the trucks. The two lead the walkers a few meters away and Rick pulls out one of the piglets; He then cuts it's femoral artery and leaves it for the walkers to devour. He repeats this several times before the walkers are a safe distance away. Rick appears to be crying as he kills each piglet, and is significantly affected when the last piglet's blood splatters all over his face. Meanwhile, Carol finds Lizzie and Mika near the fence looking at walkers again. Carol assures her that she needs to be strong in letting her father go and not to run away from her fear of the walkers but to face them. She puts a flower in Lizzie's hair. Lizzie takes the knife from Carol's hand, and puts it in her belt. Carl finds his father burning up the pig pen. Rick explains that they either got the virus from the pigs or that we infected them. He tells Carl that they need to stay away from Judith for a while to protect her from possibly being infected. Carl then tells Rick about Carol teaching the kids how to use knives, but asks that Rick not confront her, as he believes she is right in doing so. Rick promises not to. He then pulls out his gun and holster, as well as handing Carl his gun back. He lights a match and burns the pigpen; then, Rick takes off his bloody shirt and throws that into the fire as well. |

Tyreese is seen going to Karen's isolated cell in the tombs with some flowers, only to find her missing. He notices a trail of blood leading down the hallway; Following it, he arrives outside where he sees the burnt and charred corpses of both Karen and David; Karen recognizable by her bracelet.In the inner courtyard, Tyreese explains to Rick, Carol and Daryl how he found Karen and David's burnt corpses; he came to see Karen, saw the blood trail on the floor and it led him outside. Tyreese demands Rick to find who did it and bring the killer to him; when the latter tries to calm him down, he turns violent and attacks Rick, punching him in the face. Daryl holds him up, and Carol tries to stop Rick from retaliating, but it's too late. Rick charges at Tyreese, knocking him down and brutally beating his face. Daryl eventually pulls Rick off Tyreese before it goes any further. Rick looks at his severely injured hand, horrified with what he just did. Dr. S and Hershel are looking over a bite victim who got his arm amputated. Unluckily, the victim dies of blood-loss. Dr. S mournfully prepares to put him down. Later, Hershel is bandaging Rick's hand. He comments on the group's situation, and that "everything they worked so hard to keep out just found its way in" and briefs Rick of The Flu situation; it is spreading and that another council meeting is being held the next day to decide what they should do. Tyreese is seen digging graves for Karen and David. Bob approaches him, telling Tyreese to go see Hershel and make sure he's alright. Tyreese firmly says that he will only after they are buried. Bob tries to change his mind, but Tyreese glares at him and repeats "once they're in the ground." Bob starts to help him dig. Glenn suggests to Hershel that with Karen and David dead, the infection may have been curbed. Sasha suddenly leaves C-Block, coughing violently. She assures Hershel that she'll go to A-Block, where all the sick people are being isolated, to see Dr. S, who is revealed to be sick as well. At the meeting the following morning, the council eventually reach the consensus that they need medical supplies for treatment. As Hershel mentions that there is an animal hospital facility nearby that could help, Glenn starts to show symptoms of The Flu. The sick are led into Cell Block A while Carol watches them, wearing a mask for protection. Suddenly, Lizzie comes over and tells Carol that she isn't feeling well. She asks if Carol can tuck her in, but Carol realizes that she might get infected. Heartbroken, Carol gives her a hug and sends her inside the cellblock to Glenn before tearing off her mask and sobbing. Outside, Carol is pumping the water, pointing out to Rick that they are running low. They agree that the next day they will go out to clean the cistern. She suggests to Rick that he should talk to Tyreese, before leaving back to the Prison. Rick cautiously approaches Tyreese who is finishing the graves. He says he's sorry for hitting Tyreese, and then proceeds to ask him if Karen and David had any enemies or anyone who had a problem with them. Tyreese fiercely denies this then walks off, mocking Rick for spending the day "looking at water pumps" instead of trying to find the murderer. In the cell block, Rick briefly talks to Carl to look over the office block, where the most vulnerable survivors are being kept at; the kids and the elderly. Bob and Daryl fuel up a car, and Bob is disturbed when Daryl reveals that it was Zach's car. Back in A-Block Tyreese, who's there watching the sick (making sure no one will try to kill them), is asked to join the supply run for medical supplies with Daryl, Michonne and Bob. He refuses at first, but Daryl is able to convince him otherwise, saying he'll help them more in the run, looking for medicine than there, watching. He bids farewell to a sick Sasha, and leaves with the team. In the office block, Hershel decides to go into the woods, hoping to find herbs to treat the patients. After a tense moment with Carl saying he can't leave, they reach an agreement where Carl goes out with him. Outside, Hershel comments that he'd be good without him, and remarks how peaceful it is out there. How safe is out there compared to the Prison. Carl denies, pointing out to a nearby, severely-decomposed walker, and soon one more shows up. Carl prepares to shoot it, but Hershel stops him and tells him that he doesn't need to. They leave the place with the herbs, with Carl remarking how peaceful it was. Rick goes to the Tombs and investigates the courtyard. He examines the bloodtrail and takes a closer look at the door. There is a bloody handprint on the door and Rick compares the print with his own hand. He recognises that it is noticably smaller that his own suggesting the killer may have been female. Rick sighs and glances away. Arriving back at the prison, Maggie sees Hershel entering A-Block and warns him of the sick. Rick overhears the arguing and sides with Maggie. Hershel then proceeds to remind them how they risk their life everyday and every hour, no matter what they do. He says that it isn't their choice; the only choice being what they are risking it for. Stating he can help the sick, Hershel pulls his bandana over his face and goes into the cell block. He gives Dr. S the herb tea. Suffering heavily from the symptoms, he coughs blood which sprays Hershel's face. Aware that he's most likely infected already, Hershel takes off the bandana and wipes his face. He also treats Glenn, giving him encouragement to keep pushing through. While driving towards the hospital for the supply run, the group hears a voice over the car radio repeating the word "Sanctuary... Sanctuary...survive..." Daryl is distracted by it and hits a few walkers on the road. He stops the car, shocked at the massive herd of thousands of walkers between them and their destination. Daryl drives in reverse and runs over several more walkers but the car eventually gets stuck, forcing them to ditch it while the walkers are still few in numbers. Daryl, Michonne and Bob make it out, but Tyreese stays behind, seemingly in a stupor. Bob eventually snaps him out of it and Tyreese storms out of the car and in a rage, ferociously begins to kill the walkers that are quickly surrounding him, yelling at the others to go as he is swarmed. After running in the woods for a while, the group stops to rest, and notices movement in the bushes. Tyreese comes out, covered in walker guts and blood, but alive and unscathed. They keep moving as the walkers chase after them. Outside, Carol rigged a distraction for the walkers and is beyond the fences cleaning the cistern. Rick notices this and runs towards her. At the same time, several walkers emerge from the forest behind Carol at the same time a few of the walkers at the fence turn their attention towards her. After a few seconds, Carol finishes cleaning the hose and Rick is able to save her. They both run back towards the fences and make it back inside. Rick tells her that what she did was stupid and careless. As she walks away, Rick tells Carol that he's noticed how far she'd go to protect the group of survivors. He then asks her if she killed Karen and David: after a moment, she responds to him "yes." |

While on a supplies mission to a local college, Tyreese, Michone, Bob and Daryl hotwire a van to get to the college from the road after their other car was surrounded by a hoard. They make it to the college and find medicine, and they escape several walkers. Meanwhile, Carol and Rick find a house where they meet Sam and Ana, a young couple. The four agree to work together and split up. Carol and Rick find Ana`s body being eaten by walkers, and cannot find Sam. When they attempt to leave, Rick tells Carol she is exiled from the group for the murder of Karen and David, and Carol leaves in another car.Rick arrives back at the prison and meets Maggie who is busy clearing walkers from the fence. After Rick asks about Carl, Maggie questions him on Carol's where abouts. After he avoids it with another question, she demands him to tell her. He tells her what happened to Carol, asking whether or not she'd do the same. After hesitance, Maggie agrees, but insists she wouldn't be able to actually commit to it. Rick tells her to follow her instincts before leaving. Rick heads to the administration building, where he gives a bag of food to Carl. Inside A Block, things get worse when a few more members get sick. Henry cannot breathe and Hershel inserts a tube into his throat along with an air pump. Sasha and Glenn take shifts pumping air into his throat, beginning with Sasha. Glenn and Hershel find Mr. Jacobs dead with blood covering his face from his nose and mouth. Glenn attempts to kill him when Hershel warns him of not doing it in front of everyone. When they get him out of the Cell, Hershel is unable to put him down and Glenn does so. Later, Maggie comes to visit Glenn through the window, but Hershel tells her that Glenn is resting and tells her to stay out. When Hershel starts closing everyone's cell doors as Caleb had warned him to, a man storms out of his cell suffocating from the blood in his lungs. An extremely weak Sasha helps Hershel put him on a bed with wheels before she gets too weak to help him. He warns her to return to her cell and he brings the body into the room with the window. He fails to put the man down and has to cover his face before he can do it. Rick witnesses Hershel stab the man in the face and tells him of Carol. When Hershel returns to the Cell Block, he continues closing cell doors. However, upon seeing a collapsed Sasha, he runs to her, leaving a cell with a female walker open. Hershel notices that Sasha is passed out due to dehydration, and he revives her. She tells him of how she used to calculate everything to live as long as possible and that she is thankful for his "stupid" behavior. He then starts to close more cell doors when he spots a father and passed out son in the same cell. The father warns him that he wants to stay by his son's side and locks the cell door. Soon after, the man Glenn was pumping air for dies and when he attempts to call out for help, he starts choking on his own blood and passes out. Lizzie finds him as the man starts to reanimate. Lizzie calls for help, which gets the attention of the female walker behind Hershel. The female walker jumps on Hershel and pins him to the ground. The father leaves his cell with a gun and his reanimated son follows him. A blonde woman comes to his rescue and pulls the walker off of Hershel, potentially saving his life. However, the father's son attacks his father from behind, to which he accidently fires a gunshot that kills the woman. The gunshot echoes through the prison to Maggie and Rick who are fortifying the fence. Rick warns her to go help the people in Cell Block A. Meanwhile, Lizzie leads the walker away from Glenn as Maggie arrives and attempts to open the door without success. Hershel gets up and runs toward Lizzie, who gets pinned by a walker. He manages to throw the walker off of the catwalk. He sticks Lizzie in Luke's cell and he goes to get the shotgun from Caleb, however he has already turned. Caleb grabs Hershel as the female walker starts to move up the stairs. With sadness, Hershel breaks one of Caleb's arms and kills him. He proceeds to kill three walkers after leading them out of the children's sight. He realises he needs the air pump and climbs onto the metal fence that the walker from before landed. He ends up getting pinned. Maggie heads to the visitors room and smashes a window to get into A Block. She kills the reanimated father and the walker that pinned Hershel and the two head to help Glenn who has stopped breathing. Outside, the fence gives way and a hoard of walkers get in. Rick and Carl run into the courtyard, where they get assault rifles and gun down the many walkers. Right after they finish, the van with Daryl, Michonne, Tyreese, and Bob arrives. Daryl and Michone run out of the van to go help, while Bob and Tyreese head to A Block. Tyreese goes and cradles his sister in his arms, while Bob goes to administer drugs to Glenn. |

The next morning, Rick returns to his usual routine, splashing water on his face. He is about to go talk to Daryl when Carl comes along. Rick instead decides to spend time with Carl harvesting the garden. Hershel helps Michonne and Daryl load up the dead bodies. Daryl asks where Carol is, and Hershel avoids the question by telling him that she is fine but to talk to Rick. Michonne extends an offer to Hershel to join her, and he accepts. Outside, The Governor is seen looking at the prison from a distance. He runs into Michonne and Hershel, kidnaps the two of them and brings them back to his new camp. Brian informs its members that they need to take the prison to be safe. He convinces them on the point that no one is going to die and he will only use Michonne and Hershel as bargaining chips. Tara is confused by Brian's explanation and reasoning. Lilly tells Brian she doesn't want to fight for a new home. At the prison, Rick admits to Daryl that he banished Carol from the prison. Daryl is upset with Rick, telling him that he is wrong about Carol. Rick says that when Tyreese finds out what Carol did, he'll want to kill her. Daryl disagrees and forces Rick to tell Tyreese. When the two meet up with him, Tyreese instead shows them a mutilated animal and declares it the "psychopath" that killed Karen and David. As Rick is about to tell Tyreese the truth, an explosion is heard. Everyone rushes outside. The Governor's Militia has gathered outside the fences, along with Mitch's tank. Brian calls Rick out to the gates to talk. Rick is told to leave the prison, though he refuses. Brian then attempts to use Hershel and Michonne to force Rick to leave. Rick refuses again and Brian retrieves Michonne's sword and decapitates Hershel. A firefight ensues. Meanwhile Lilly and Meghan are waiting near a riverbank for the prison to be ready for them. While playing in the dirt, Meghan uncovers an old sign in addition to a walker. The walker grabs a hold of her and, despite Lilly's efforts to save her, bites her in the shoulder. As the others are fighting, The Governor saunters to Hershel's nearly-lifeless body and finishes the job, effectively killing the old man. Lilly arrives just in time with Meghan's lifeless body. Without missing a beat, the Governor takes Meghan from her mother, aims his gun at her head, and prevents the little girl from reanimating. The prison group gets split up due to the Chaos of the firefight. After saving Tyreese from and killing Alisha, Lizzie and Mika Samuels, in addition to Luke and Molly, head off with him. Maggie and Beth work on loading survivors on the bus. Glenn and Jeanette are amongst them. Maggie discovers that Beth went back to get Judith and leaves to find her. Maggie runs into Sasha and Bob. Bob is shot, so Maggie and Sasha assist him. While this is happening, Glenn has gotten off the bus without Maggie noticing and the bus mysteriously drives off. Maggie, Bob, and Sasha are stranded together and run off. Beth returns, without Judith, and runs into Daryl (who has just killed Mitch with his crossbow). She is adamant about finding Judith, but Daryl tells her they have to leave. The Governor continues up to the prison and subsequently gets into a fistfight with Rick. The two beat each other up pretty badly, and the Governor has the upper hand until a sword is driven through his sternum. Michonne has freed herself from the rope she was tied with. The Governor then collapses on the ground. Rick asks where Carl is; Michonne does not know so Rick heads toward the prison. Michonne starts to follow him, then looks back at the Governor, who is bleeding to death. She contemplates killing him, but instead leaves him to either be eaten by walkers or reanimate as one. Shortly after she leaves, Lilly walks up to him and shoots the Governor in the head, killing him. Rick finds Carl and asks him where Judith is. Carl is unsure, but the two soon find her empty car seat. It has blood on it, leading the Grimes to believe she is dead. They then escape the prison. As they are going over the hill, Rick tells Carl "don't look back." Shortly after the battle, Michonne returns, her katana in hand, and gazes upon the wreckage and the carnage. She approaches the prison determinedly, killing any walkers that cross her path. She leads two of the Governor's reanimated soldiers to the spiked gate and catches them, slicing off their arms and jaws and binding them with rope. Walking away, she comes to the reanimated head of Hershel. She raises her katana over him and, after a moment of hesitation, drops it through Hershel's head, killing it. She then walks away with her two new walker companions. That same day, Carl and Rick are walking away, Carl slightly ahead of Rick. Rick barks at Carl to slow down, then when Carl doesn't, Rick screams at him to stop. He says that they need to find a place to stay, and that they're "going to be...", and Carl quells his false hopes with a glare. They come to a barbecue stand and are going to raid it. Rick tells Carl to stand watch outside, but Carl says that he should go in instead. They both end up going in and find a walker trapped behind a wall of chairs. Rick draws it out and slams an axe into its head, but the axe does not go in deep enough to kill it. Carl shoots the walker and Rick shouts at him for his needless wasting of bullets. They raid the rest of the restaurant and Rick returns with some supplies from the kitchen and asks what Carl got. Carl adds his contribution to their sack and says, "I win." Meanwhile, Michonne comes to the road on which Rick and Carl were walking and finds their tracks. She ignores them and continues into the woods adjacent. Rick and Carl come upon a house in a nice neighborhood and check it for any unwanted residents. Rick becomes angry with Carl for moving too quickly, and Carl turns around and begins banging his foot against the wall, screaming "Hey, asshole! Hey, shitface! Hey, asshole!" Rick orders him to watch his mouth, and Carl, appalled, says that if there were any downstairs, they would have come up. They check the rest of the house and Carl comes to what appears to be a teenager's bedroom. He stares around in awe and comes across a flat screen television, an XBox, and a mound of games. He stares at the setup fixedly but then rips a cable from the back of the television and uses it downstairs to tie the front door shut. Rick wants to move the couch in front of the door for added protection, but Carl is irritated because he has tied the door shut. He says it's a secure knot and tells Rick that Shane taught him. He says quietly and coldly to his father, "Remember him?" and Rick responds after a moment with, "Yeah, I remember him. I remember him everyday. There something else you want to say to me?" Carl does not respond and they continue with the couch. Now that they're done, Rick offers some food to Carl and tells him he should eat, but Carl refuses, saying they should save it. Rick throws the food down in front of Carl and orders him to eat it, then goes to the bathroom. Staring at himself in the mirror, he removes his shirt and inspects the damage inflicted upon him, seeing his now walker-like appearance. |

Over the night, Michonne has a frightening flashback-turned-nightmare involving her "lover" Mike, their friend Terry, and her and Mike's young child. It is revealed that Mike and Terry were her two original walker bodyguards, and when she sees them turned to walkers and her child gone, she startles awake in a car, her new walkers outside. At the house that they found the day before, Carl awakes to find Rick passed out on the couch. He grabs his belt and gun and a bag of cereal and fixes himself a bowl from the kitchen. He eats his cereal while reading a book up in the bedroom he was in the night before, as calm as though it were a normal day before the apocalypse, and goes downstairs to try and wake up Rick. However, Rick does not wake, as he is a kind of comatose state. Carl's screaming, however, attracts two walkers. He goes outside to lure them away. He draws them down the road, walking backwards, and in his amble he runs into another walker and he his knocked to the ground in the struggle. He shoots the first two, which land atop him, and wastes three bullets trying to kill the third, which also falls atop him. He pulls himself out and away and then vomits from the experience. Tired, picking up his gun, he says to the three dead bodies, "I win." He then goes back to the house. Michonne walks aimlessly through the woods with her two walkers, appearing to be nothing more than just another zombie. Back at the house, Carl tells a sleeping Rick that he killed three walkers and that he saved him, trying to elicit a response. He then rattles off in a rage about how he does not need his father anymore, about he wouldn't be able to protect him and how he wasn't able to protect any of the others whom they had lost, including Lori. At the end of his rant, he says, "I'd be find if you died," and empties their sack next to the couch and brings it with him to scout out the rest of the neighborhood. He comes to a particular house and wrenches a little lantern from the ground, which has a spike at the end of it, to use as a weapon. To enter the house, he tries charging at the front door to knock it down (instead of trying the knob) and then uses the spike to pry the door open. Inside, he finds a can of pudding and then heads upstairs. The coast seems to be clear until he opens a door and a walker attempts to escape. Carl falls to the ground and wastes all his bullets trying to kill the walker, but fails to kill it. He is chased into a bedroom but his unable to close the door, so he tries for the window, which he cannot open. After an intense struggle, during which the walker nearly bites his ankle, Carl escapes, losing only a shoe. With a piece of chalk, he writes on the door, "Walker inside/Got my shoe/Didn't [sic] get me" and heads to the roof to enjoy the entire 112-oz can of pudding. Michonne continues her walk through the woods, but after seeing a walker that looks eerily like her, she becomes unnerved by the possibility of becoming a zombie and and unleashes her frustration on all 23 walkers around her, including her two bodyguards. She begins to cry then heads back to the road where she originally saw Carl's and Rick's footsteps. That night, Carl is asleep at the foot of the couch on which Rick is sleeping. He wakes up and looks at his father, who twitches awake and begins wheezing. Carl thinks that he has died and become a walker and he hurries to the other side of the room, raising his gun. Rick falls off the couch and reaches out to his son, who is cry. Rick grabs Carl's foot and Carl, unable to kill his father, drops the gun and begs his father just to bite him and end it. However, Rick says weakly, "Carl... don't go outside... stay safe" and drops and falls back to sleep. Carl cradles his father's head in his lap and says repeatedly, "I'm scared...," touching his forehead to his father's. |

The next day, Michonne happens across the barbecue stand that Rick and Carl visited two days before. Inside, she drops to the floor and begins to have a conversation with her dead lover, Mike. She says that she misses him, even when she was with him, and says to him that it wasn't he who "did it," perhaps referring to the possibility of him killing their son out of mercy, to take him out of this world. She says that he was wrong, because she is still there, and he and their son could be as well. She knows the answer (to Mike's question in her nightmare, which seemed to be "Why should we continue?"), she says; she knows why. She departs from the shack and continues after Carl and Rick's tracks. Meanwhile, Rick is awake and lightly reprimands his son for going outside, but he says it is good that he found food. Carl tells him about the pudding and they share a laugh. More seriously, Rick says that he knows that they'll never get things back to the way they used to be, but says he only clung to the prison for his children. He tells Carl that he, Carl, is a man, and that he is sorry, but Carl tells him that he does not need to be sorry. Michonne enters the neighborhood in which Carl and Rick are staying and finds the empty can of pudding in front of their house. She approaches the house slowly, bracing her katana, but releases it when she looks through the front window and sees her two friends. She cries tears of joy but composes herself before knocking upon the door. Rick and Carl ready their guns and Rick looks through the peephole, but he collapses into laughter and looks up at his son, saying, "It's for you." |
