The way I see it is if Beth survives this kidnapping plot she will be around for a long time. The show is heading into the 5th season and too many of the S1/S2 characters are dead. The writers like to throw around the idea that no one is safe, but their situation reminds me a lot of Lost. It was another show that was very character driven with slow plot progression and frequent killing of major characters. But eventually they realized that killing off too much of the original cast will do little other drive away their dedicated fans who end up with all their favorite characters dead and replaced with underdeveloped ones. The way TWD currently looks with its major characters is something like:
- Rick & Carl - Untouchable
- Daryl - The Male badass character, not dying any time soon
- Michone - The Female badass character, not dying any time soon
- Carol - Most developed female character, although this season her story has taken an odd turn, might be in danger
- Maggie & Glenn - Their development has been destroyed by their relationship, I am not sure if AMC cares about this or if they will continue along with it for another 3 seasons
- Tyresse, Sasha, Bob - They lack a purpose at the moment, their fate is up in the air
Beth has a lot of future potential because while she had no active role in S2/S3 she has been around the group for a long time, has a very unique personality and is potential romance for pretty much any of the male characters. Her lack of screen time in past seasons can be filled in by imagination with how it was done in "Still", it presented her as always trying to keep the mood optimistic in prison and try to build a normal life for the people she loves♫
Beth is a character who I vie for. She's an underdog and an optomist. She's the new Hershel. She's shown that she has a good head on her shoulder, a world of insight, a sense of curiosity and wonder even in this world. She looks at everything in a different light, but she's realistic at the same time. She's, unfortunately, a character that the writers clearly neglected developing as fully as the rest of the ensemble in seasons 2 and 3 (though she did get more attention in 3, but not anywhere near what she got in 4), probably becuase they weren't sure what they'd do with her until the end of Season 3. Beth is finally getting the character development she deserves and it's amazing. If they stopped now, all that effort would have been for nought. Plus, she's become a light int he dark and a beacon of hope for Daryl. I can definitely see her being a romantic interest for him, which would only further both of their characters' development, because emotions and romance are new concepts to Daryl in general. After "Still" and "Alone," she's become one of my favorite characters, honestly. I like that we're finally getting to know Beth and that at least two characters know her just as well (Maggie & Daryl) -- even though I think, at this point, Daryl may know Beth a little better than her own sister does.; they did binge on moonshine, set a shack on fire and bond over a white trash brunch multiple times.
Emily Kinney, i love you:-))) Beth is great character, she is so cute!

it's so interesting to see the posts before the back half of season 4 and just how wrong everyone's predictions were. i love what cheria posted - it's how i feel about beth too - she's just being real whereas some of the other characters, while fascinating to watch and love, are really over the top if you consider real life. i am hoping beth will come into season 5 as the "new sheriff in town" and blow everyone away. but of course, like everyone who posted in the first half of season 4, i have no idea what will happen! can't wait to just watch it unfold.
I agree with everything that Cheria said, Beth isn't dying anytime soon, she has a LOT of potential to be a better character and survive for a very long time♪ I think that she is definitely the character to look forward to in S5. Her story is soo interesting!
