• Glenn's ultimate fate may be a message from the writers that even characters that have been on the show very long can't stay safe. What do you think? Do you think other characters such as Daryl will suffer the same fate eventually?

You have to agree it is weird they didn't show his name. When someone dies on the show the Talking Dead always shows their name, which at least casts reasonable doubt on the subject. This is especially true for a character as important as Glenn. Now, do I believe Glenn is still alive? No. But I won't admit there is some doubt in my mind.

I agree with this. His status should definitely be unknown. It won't be though. People on here never let the status's be correct. Someone dies, doesn't have brain destroyed... " we have no proof they became a walker." (except the fact it has been driven into our head that you turn if you die)

Exactly! Then there is no way Glenn would have escaped from walkers like that, he is probably just a pool of blood and bones by now, he would not have been identified. There were many walkers too, and Glenn would not have been able to escape from all of them.

        Loading editor
    • I definitely think Glenn is dead. In that situation, there's no way anyone could escape short of a miracle. However, I am puzzled by the fact that in the leaked set photos which revealed Paul Monroe would be appearing in season 6, you can see Steven Yeun on set with Tom Payne. I'd like to say he's just on set for a flashback segment, but since he has yet to meet Paul Monroe in the series, there's no way there could be a flashback featuring both him and Paul.

In season 1, Rick and Glenn used the blood and guts of Walkers to walk blend in. Getting covered in the guts of a living person is like blowing an air horn to attract walkers and wearing a shirt with the words "All You Can Eat Buffet" on it.

It is suspicious how AMC is acting about his death but whether or not he is dead isn't my problem. I love Glenn, don't get me wrong, but there should be no way Gleen made it out of there. Even if those were Nicholas' gutts, I don't buy for a second he logically could have made it out. Nicholass' body shouldn't cover Glenn completley and even if it somhow did, the blood from Nicholas isn't going to protect Glenn. Walkers like human blood, Shane and Rick showed us this in season 2, if anything it's like adding Ketchup. So even if the walkers were eating Nick, after they eat him, Glenn would be next, he was completly surrounded with a body ontop of him. He coould not have escaped and if AMC says he did, it would be very very very stupid. So do I think AMC would pull something like this? Definetly, but that doesn't make it right.

    • Okay first off, comic book fans should recognize this scene. It was a dream in the comic. Second, the character page needs to be changed to "Unknown", he was not shown in the Talking Dead: In Memoriam segment, he wasn't even on a guest on the episode. Gimple also confirmed that we'll see Glenn again - but we'll see him in parts, flashbacks or current times. His fate will be resolved eventually.

Glenn's my number one favorite, but I wasn't upset since I read the comics and the Talking Dead went more in-depth.

I have. Glenn's actor didn't appear on talking dead, the memorial on there didn't say he was dead just "don't let it be true," he has been seen in pictures on set with a character yet to appear. It's obvious Nicolas was on top of him so that's who was getting eaten. Then there is Chekhov's dumpster which Glenn will no doubt climb under or into while Nicolas is eaten. How he survives after is a mystery but it will happen.

Can anyone else agree that they messed up by killing Glenn in such a way? We've seen people being torn apart many times (Noah last season too, hell maybe that was foreshadowing because Glenn even watched that happen).

Lori was one of the most hated, if not THE most hated characters in TWD and she got a long death scene that was honestly amazing and made me like her before she died. For Glenn (one of the most loved characters) we get him falling into a crowd of walkers because Nicolas had to be dumb ONCE again and the only reason he was still around was because Glenn wanted to be a nice guy still and didn't kill him. I don't know, maybe I'm overreacting but I think that was a dumb way for him to go. I wish he died saving Maggie or the kids or something. Glenn was heroic in a way. Although it's hard to tell when exactly someone's blood goes "bad" to the point that Walkers won't eat it, the fact that they were in the process of devouring something (for simplicity's sake, I won't make a guess as to who they were eating), means that they were being attracted by it. Once someone turns, the Walkers lose interest in them, which is the point at which the person's blood can be used as camoflage. Basically, the Walkers were eating either Nicholas (which would mean his blood and guts can't be used as camoflage since it is still attracting Walkers), or Glenn.

    • Also, IF he's alive (again, I'm accepting he's dead because it'll be really crazy if they can pull of him living after how that scene happened) it's kind of smart on thier part to have a flashback episode for Morgan so we have another week to be calming down and then "WOAH HE"S ALIVE YAY!" kind of thing.

Or as someone above said, possibly a dream sequence?

      Best bets are:

      He's dead. Gone. Addios.

      Or.

I feel like this actually far more fitting than his comic death, if it's true. Random deaths are kind of lame and I prefer deaths that happen for a reason. Glenn's death while maybe his fault for wanting to leave Alexandria was still pretty random, Glenn's death here is more character driven in that his death is becuase of his inability to kill. If Glenn had just killed Nicholas like he should have, he wouldn't be dead. In a world like this, mercy isn't an option and for refusing to accept what the world is and refusing to adapt to it, the world literally ate him up.

He saved Rick the first episode for crying out loud. He should've died in a better way... :L

Not everyone gets to go out in a blaze of glory. We can't all have die heroically sacrificing ourselves to save our friends (T-Dog), or after putting up a mighty last stand against a tyrant and his forces (Merle). Sometimes good people die in stupid, pointless ways and this is what happened to Glenn. Do we like it? No. Is it how the world works sometimes? Yes.

Lori was one of the most hated, if not THE most hated characters in TWD and she got a long death scene that was honestly amazing and made me like her before she died.

I can fully agree with that actually.

He didn't want to become someone who killed humans (Like Tyreese) and ended up dead (Like Tyreese). I mean, yeah it's kind of fitting actually. Shows his character a lot more.

Still sad that it was so 1,2,3 he's dead and not even a speach or a few seconds of diologue. Even Nicolas got a whole woozy moment and "Thank you" and... god I hate him so much. Have since his first appearance lol

      I need to realx...

You're right... Not everyone dies heroically and Glenn had his moments where he was a hero, even if it wasn't in his last moments. :)

It Nicholas's body wasn't on him then Glenn is screwed Either way it's a 50/50 chance of him being alive or dead

In season 1, Rick and Glenn used the blood and guts of Walkers to walk blend in. Getting covered in the guts of a living person is like blowing an air horn to attract walkers and wearing a shirt with the words "All You Can Eat Buffet" on it.
Nicholas wasn't really alive after he fell the walkers could have been tearing into him and Glenn could have been under him and there's a chance the blood and guts could have saved him they never really tried it on someone who recently died
Still if it was Nicholas's body then Glenn has at least some chance to make it out if it wasn't then Glenn's dead

There's always hope, but the fact that the Walkers were so eagerly tearing into the body in question means that the blood is attracting them. The reason Walkers aren't consatantly trying to eat each other is because their blood doesn't attract each other. If the blood in that scene was attracting Walkers, then it won't camoflage you. It'll just keep attracting them.

They could have been eagerly eating into Nicholas and Glenn under him giving him time to try to get out:

      • Glenn could make it under the dumpster and try to figure something out from there
      • When Nicholas's body is getting eaten a noise attracts them and they could follow it and Glenn could still be alive
      • The guts and blood could stop them from attacking Glenn
      • It was all a dream/hallucination
      • Glenn is really dead

Those are all the possibilities that could happen There's always that one chance he could make it out of there

No character should be safe, anyone should be able to go at any time. Your philosphy bothers me. Imagine if everyone left after their favorite character died, the show would never make it. By your logic I should have stopped watching after they killed Merle because he was my favorite? The plot of the Walking Dead does not hinge on Daryl and to anyone who wants to leave after he dies, I say fine, but your logic makes no sense to me. This is a show where people die all the time and if you can't handle that going in, you probably shouldn't watch it in the first place.

Yes! I think it will be the second one to be honest.

Before Glenn died I had an idea that he'd go to hit Glenn and be like "Nawh nevermind" and then wack Daryl. That would've been crazy! But I'd actually be totally cool with Daryl dying if he died through Glenn's comic death.

Rick fires a fully automatic machine gun. That could easily be a reason the walkers scatter and head towards Rick, leaving Glenn a chance to escape. Just a theory. But I'm telling you. He's alive.

    • Not dead, Notice the location of his guts being pulled out. Much to high to be Glens, his status should be unknown on the wiki because it is very unclear. Not his guts being pulled out, no actual dead glen shown therefore unknown. Doesn't mean he wont be dead or undead soon but in this episode he isnt clearly dead. Could roll under the dumpster, noise ex machina could save him sure, they could finishing eating then notice glen and eat him too, but as of right now he is not dead.

    • I'm not saying anything definite, but there is a chance Glenn may still be alive.  I know it looks like his guts were being ripped out of him, but don't forget that Nick's body was on top of him, so it was undoubtedly him that was getting ripped apart.  Plus, Glenn was covered in blood, as well as Nick's body, so there is a possibility that his scent maybe masked, so the walkers wouldn't detect him. There have been eps where people who were covered in blood managed to walk straight through herds of walkers, including Glenn and Rick in the first season. If Glenn was covered enough, he may just be able to simply walk out of the herd, or maybe wait until they were finished munching on Nick and then leave, leaving him alone.

    • Also notice how the shot was framed, how far away and the angle they showed the zombies eating, it clearly isnt his body yet. Also the call backs to the shot of rick being surrounded the day the two met. Rick got out, I think glen will too, will he survive long? maybe not but he isnt dead yet.

Fair enough, it is your opinion after all.

There was that time in the premiere episode of Season 2 where Daryl used the corpses of the people who died inside those cars at the Highway to mask him and T-Dog's scent from the herd that passed by them.

Not saying that Glenn is all and well and that he's still alive, but just saying the possibility of it that he might have survived... barely... but not really sure. Just a small assumption that he could be alive...

Even if that were to happen, you need Walker guts and blood to mask yourself, not the one from your deceased companion's. Because if your companion's blood and guts were to spill on you, you'd still be a target for "dinner" for the Walkers.

Unless he had any sort of sharp object that could a rip walker's stomach open and let its blood and guts cover him, he can't escape being bitten and mostly eaten if that doesn't happen.

Simple Logic from the second episode from the first season: Use walker guts and blood to mask your scent from them. It works, unless a sudden downpour screws you and whoever is with you.

    • I sincerely believe he is alive. When Glenn and Nicholas fell, Nick landed on top, and the guts that the walkers are eating is Nick's. I believe that Glenn will find a way to shimmy under the dumpster or something else while they're distracted and wait it out. I think it fits with the story line too, because ever since the ordeal with Nick and Noah, Nick has been trying to redeem himself with Glenn (and that has been too major of a point for the writers to leave us hanging). What better way to do that than to sacrifice himself. If Nick didn't shoot himself, there would be no way either of them could survive that, apart from a miracle. Also, on IMDB, Steven Yeun is credited all the way up to Season 9, Episode 16. Of course, there could be another reason for that, such as flashbacks or for whatever reason he remains a walker. Or maybe they just listed all the episodes to confuse us. Some people are saying that he has to die so that the writers can show us that no one is safe is a little ridiculous. First of all, they do show that even if he is still alive. Just making everyone believe that he is dead shows us that no one is invincible. And second, didn't they prove that when they killed off Hershel or Beth or Tyrese or Noah?

I'll admit, I could be wrong. But like I said, I sincerely believe Glenn Rhee is alive.

    • It looks like Nicholas fell on top of Glenn. With a crazy chance, The walkers are devouring Nicholas and Glenn maybe.... I dont know. When the camera shows the sceen from above, We only see one body on the ground, That means Nicholas must've fell on top of Glenn and the walkers are eating Nicholas. This is just a theory though, we will see what happens next episode. I'm hopeful.

    • The problem with the blood theory is that when Rick and Glenn did it in season one, they were covered in nasty, putrid zombie blood, not fresh human blood. I do think Nick's blood can mask Glenn's smell so that the walkers don't realize that there are two people there, and they'll continue to munch on Nick and wont notice Glenn sneaking underneath the dumpster.

    • I'm afraid many of you are forgetting rule #1 about Walking Dead deaths. If it is not clearly listed in the "Memoriam" section of the Talking Dead episode IMMEDIATELY following, then the character is not dead. Remember Judith, anyone?

I like the theory someone posted on here about how the noise ex machina from Rick's AK drew the horde away before they were finished with Nick. This is in-line with the time-lapse sequences they've been experimenting with this season.

I say this as a fan of the series, a fan of Glenn, and also as a realist. AMC is too smart. They can read trends, merchandising charts, and demographics better than most other networks. They won't risk losing a core character (and more importantly a large chunk of his accompanying fanbase) over something so menial and pointless, even though, honestly, that IS how the world should be portrayed at this point.

It's not exceptional storytelling, and it's not in-line with the bleak outlook and hopelessness that permeate the comics, but this is, first and foremost to AMC, a business. And a very profitable one at that.

There is almost no uncertainty in my mind that Glenn somehow miraculously survived. He SHOULD have died, but he didn't. He probably will soon though.

That's what I said on the forum discussion that I made...

It's simple TWD logic that nobody who's been following the franchise, new or old, should not even know. It's been an obvious thing when surviving an ecounter against a herd if you wish to pass by them safely without being detected, bitten and worst, devoured.

Though, like I said in the mentioned thread that I made, I ain't siding with the people who believe that Glenn is alive and those that believe he is dead; I'm more of a pacifist type, staing on neutral grounds until the fire has gone out.

Yeah even if Glenn somehow lives, I'd say this pretty much puts him out of the running.

Have to disagree. This is like the horror movie scene where a person about to die is searching the house, tension rises until... the cat surprises them and they relax. And then they get stabbed by the bad guy who was hiding behind the curtains all along.

      We're being messed with.

Glenn (by some miracle) is fine, we all relax and then he gets killed by Negan.

    • I'm undecided if Glen lives. I certainly think we will see more on his death if he dies.

The route to Glen's survival depends mainly on the timeline of events (along with the Geography)

1st Glen is not far from Michonne et al, they during their escape require gunfire. Depending on the location of the two parties relative to each other and the herd it could be that Glen & Nicholas have fallen off the dumpster before the first shots nearby are taken. If this is the case those walkers not in the immediate vicinity may be drawn away (If Glen has stopped screaming that is)

2nd Where is Glen's Walkie talkie,  very soon that is going to have RIck then Daryl talking this may distract more walkers. Potentially this could reduce the walker count to a more managable level.

If he could roll under the bins he would have a group of potentially 30 or so Walkers, beyond that survival would be dependant on either getting very lucky on an escape run or potentially could be an intorduction of a new character (Je.....) as a rescuer?

Or altenately he's ripped apart by walkers

I know whch is stastically more likely but as this is a TV show whichever is the way the writers want it to end is a good shout for how it will end

Wrong. It's a total callback to the Guts episode from season 1, and honestly, that was plainly obvious. A red herring is fine, if it's a positive red herring. God forbid we ever have moments of hope spread between the bleakness and nihilism of these episodes.

    • Clearly we're all upset and getting pissed at one another about each other's speculations doesn't change the fact the writers are going to do whatever they want within reason regardless of how much we hate or like a character.  Few things, talking dead yes gets a lot of insider knowledge but in that same limelight we have to consider that the writers probably told them that this cannot be confirmed or denied to create what seems quite clear they all want us to do which is speculate and wonder.  Yeah and it sucks coz you can't help but love Glenn.  Man was a moral compass in this story.  Interesting part will be seeing how Maggie handles this and, like how they never gave up hope and yet found each other before, if she will in fact go off the reservation on a personal mission to find him alive or walker.  The if, when and how she'd do this will all heavily depend if Rick can't get the RV started and ward off the walkers from Alexandria which if he can't could disperse the entire populus and creates a whole other cluster of crap to stretch the idea of Glenn, a Maggie search and so many other storylines.

Either way it's a 50/50 chance of him being alive or dead

Problem there is there were a ton of walkers and the chance he didn't get bit by one is near impossible.  Nick was and could be a shield but ur not fully protected 100%.  But like many I am still rooting for that miracle magic to be the case.  Get covered in blook head to toe before they get a chance to see you a non walker.

    • Remember season 2? When Daryl put walker bodies on him and T-Dog and the walkers ignored him? That may of happened with Nicholas and Glenn. The bodies blood and guts were all over Glenn and the walkers ignored him to munch on Nicholas. + Glenn has been sighted on set alot. Even since Friday! So he may be dead. But he could of waited until the walkers moved on.

The writer's sent us that message several times already. Honestly, killing a beloved character at this point is just effing cheap. We should seriously be worried that they've jumped the shark if they're already resorting to this tactic to illicit an emotional response by the third episode into the season.

I really don't think that characters are killed off by the writers just for an emotional response. In the real world, people don't just live forever, and it's the same in the TWD universe. Everyone dies eventually, and being well-liked isn't going to change that. Being a beloved character does not make you invincible, and it is the writers' mission to make sure everyone remembers that.

I don't think we saw Glenn being eaten. He's not screaming in pain, he's screaming in fear because he knows he's next.  If there were only  4 or 5  Walkers, I would give Glenn and chance.  A herd that size, no way he makes it out.  You also have to remember how Walkers work. If there's no noise to catch their attention, the Walkers in front could stand there for a couple of weeks waiting on the one's in back to turn around and walk another way.  They're not the sharpest pencils in the pack.   3 seconds into the feeding fest, there's a 1 to 2 pint fountain of blood that comes up when a major artery is severed.  Glenn would have passed out right then due to blood loss.  Glenn was dessert!  RIP GLENN.

Yeah, and if one would notice, right before the scene where Nicholas goes into a "calm pause", you'd see that the herd takes up all of the space from where they ran from to where they fell, meaning that, apart from the dumpster, there's no other way you can escape that big of a herd without getting bitten or atleast nimbled on in some parts.

Yeah that'd be a twist in the storyline, but that'd be bullshit ready to be piled on with other bullshit (no offense to you), Glenn wouldn't turn on Rick and the others considering how close he is to everyone and the fact they are all "family" now.

Losing someone within their group will cause a big impact on them, especially if the one they lost was the one closest to them. Much like how Noah's death impacted Glenn, and Tyreese's lost impacted both Rick and Sasha in a way.

      Or the latter...

Nobody's really sure, except for the writers and cast considering that they know everything... since they are the ones in it. If this is some sort of trickery to pull out a sudden tension in the fanbase, I guess I'll just say "Well played, AMC. Examining Tyreese in the TV Series; fought off and survived the encounter with the herd that was far from the Prison in Season 4 just by himself, fought a group of walkers with just his bare hands... what else?

Though in Glenn's case... that's pretty much something that'd be hard to do... unless you're a black guy, wearing a beanie, wielding a hammer and your the older brother of some girl named Sasha. Not to be racist here... just a joke.

Probably rolled under the bin until the herd heard Ricks gunfire or something like that.. To be honest, the writers wouldn't kill Glenn of as collateral of Nicolas. And being credited 13 episodes from 6x03 to 6x16 is, let's be honest, impossible for a dead character. You can't have that many flashbacks of a character you've killed of. Im 90% positive that Glenn's still alive.

They didn't show Glenn's name on talking dead on who died this episode and on talking dead it was talking about we will see Glenn in some form in either flashbacks or in the current story to help complete the story. So i think there's still some chance he could still be alive

It kinda looked like Nicholas fell on him so they could have been eating Nicholas's body on top of Glenn and Glenn is horrified to see all that blood and gore. I think Glenn's status should be unknown

      He's dead. Deal with it.
Dude, he's credited to 6x16 on Imdb and has been seen on set after the filming of 6x03. He's most likely still alive. And if characters like Tyrese and Merl gets heroic deaths I can't imagine the writers killing Glenn of as collateral from Nicolas.
1.) IMDb is not a reliable source of information, as anyone can edit it.

2.) Lori died in the fourth episode of Season 3, but her actress Sarah Wayne Callies was credited for the entire season.

      what

I made this was way back before ridiculous theories surfaced about nicholas being on top of him, as in talking about the fact that Glenn was being torn apart.

    • If Carol or Daryl dies, is good for me. But, i guess there's a chance to let Glenn still alive like Carol did. Glenn can take Andrea's place, (so to speak, he's not goin' to marry Rick, lol)

    • It is an excellent ploy to get people to discuss the show.  T-shirts are being sold online that state "Where's Glenn". it's the main topic at many work places, but most  important people are sitting down at 9:00 PM (EST) and watching the Walking Dead.  A little TV magic   . . . and Glenn's still alive.  It's actually mean if you think about it.

Eh, don't be too hard on yourself. I thought he kicked the bucket at first, but I held out hope even though I know it'll probably wiped out in the swing of a bat

Thanks for being nice. He will eventually die, we can agree on that.

    • I'm glad to see Glenn still around, but one thing this show has taught me, and that's never feel safe or get too comfortable.  Just because Glenn is alive now, doesn't he will stay that way.  I thought Beth was safe when they came for her at the hospital, but looked how that turned out.  For all we know, just as Glenn gets back home, a walker might come and rip him apart in front of everyone, or someone blows his brains out.

The ironic part is, Nick is the one who saved Glenn.  By killing himself, his body shielded Glenn against the walkers and everything, allowing him the chance to escape.  I guess in the end, Nick did do some good after all.

Most likely because it is ridiculous the way he got out. He could not have covered himself in Nicholas's guts because he was still fresh, there were so many walkers that some of them could not reach Nicholas's body and would have gone for Glenn's if he was trying for escape. It is known that walkers are also able to detect a panicked person's heartbeat, Glenn was clearly panicked, how in the world did the walkers not detect him?

They did detect him when he was under the dumpster it seemed like they were more interested in eating Nicholas to notice Glenn going under the dumpster

    • we did know he was dead, for the last fucking time listen to what we said and understand that we listed him as the dead because the rules say that until the ACTOR OR SHOWRUNNER CONFIRM IT or UNTIL THE EPISODE AIRS we can't list him as alive/unknown.

They did see him and go for him while he was under the dumsper.the ones that tried getting under he killed and used their bodys to block the dumspter and mask his sent. then waited a day or so till they went away before crawling out

    • He wasn't in the "In Memoriam" segment, wasn't on Talking Dead and he was seen behind-the-scenes with Paul Monroe. I used the wrong words in my post, it was supposed to be based on the facts that I just listed.

    • what i want to know is if glen is still alive how could he have gotten past all of those walkers it's like kenny from twd video game lee and others thought he died at the hands of walkers but low and behold he survived however it will forever remain unknown how he got out of there.

        Loading editor
    • Have you watched the episode?? He crawls out from under Nicholas, under the dumpster. Some walkers try to get him but he stabs them and they form a barrier. Them and the trash would have prevented them from smelling him

    • i only seen the part where they ate the guy on top of glenn or are you talking about the episode after that. but i don't think they'll ever take glenn out of the show because like rick and daryl he's such a fan favorite.
