• What a premiere!! I think we are on the right path with Angela Kang. I know is just one episode but so far so good.

I really liked that they focused on the core group. The dialogue is well written, realistic and Dary now talks instead of grunting. Yeah!!

I appreciate that they didn't include Magna and her group just yet. I think this storyline needs closure first before the second time jump (the real New Beginning)

Anyways, Maggie definitely shined this episode and I can't wait to see more between her and Rick clashing ideologies. Baby Hershel is so adorable!! Glenn would be proud :(

All the pairings at the museum were super good and the interactions were something fresh and organic. I sense a relationship between Gabriel and Anne (who I really like now and can't wait to find out more about).

Poor Enid, hopefully, she recovers soon. And Siddiq fear of spiders was well done. I agree with him, spiders are scarier.

Good riddance Gregory, Xander did an amazing job!! Poor Ken, you deserved better!

    9/10

Anyways, what do you think about the ep??

    • Completely agree on everything you said. Maggie was indeed the highlight of the episode. Has been for a while, since Season 7 actually. I absolutely LOVE dark Maggie! Maggie ftw!!! 9/10 me too.

    • While the episode was a little slow for me, I enjoyed it. Nice to see the communities thriving (save for the Sanctuary). Really liking Maggie this season too. Such a shame she's only in 6 episodes.

More excited for what the rest of the season holds now then what I was over the break.

Dark Maggie is the best Maggie lol. I like that Kang is adding more depth to her leadership storyline and how it affects her. Hopefully, we still have 5 more good weeks of Maggie.

I think you feel it slow because of dialogues between characters we really haven't had since S7. Yeah, a shame. But so far, Lauren is killing it.

      Me too, can't wait!!

    • I liked the episode, but a couple questions weigh on my mind:

Why did all the community leaders go on a run? I understand that's actually currently a theme in the comics; that Rick is a leader because he gets his hands dirty and not because of bureaucracy, but to have all the leaders go on a run together, including Oceanside, seems off.

And why did they take the tiny canoe? It was quite simply a small dirty canoe. Use a larger fiberglass canoe. You don't have to risk your lives for those.

      Otherwise, good episode.

The big question is why did they let Siddiq, their only medic if I'm aaware go at all. Sure if someone gets hurt he's there but they should have let him stay outside. He nearly doed because of their stupidity.

    • A big improvement for the show.

Loving dark Maggie and I hope she’ll get a little darker.

Tammy and Earl Rose were decent additions to the show, actually improving the originals, at least with Tammy.

Zeke and Carol are nice as well.

There are still some problems like the ninja-zombies and the dull scenery, as well as dumb decisions like why the leaders and their only doctor are all on a run, but I’m intrigued

Nah, they're just all nearly deaf because of how often they fire their guns without ear protection.

    • I liked this episode a lot, and I'm really glad to see a new showrunner and mood in the show, but I still have problems. I love that the focus has been put on the core five (rick, daryl, maggie, michonne, carol) but with two of them going it's all going downhill in a matter of weeks. If they really wanted this to be a 'new begining' why not start with Magna's group in this episode. Nothing could be newer than new protagonists, would have been the perfect jumping on point.

For the episode we got, i loved the character interactions, the down to earth dialogue, the zombie focus and making them scary (that spider walker tho) again. I do think however there was way too many characters at the whole 'museum run'. And the number of people kept growing and shrinking. Seriously, how did Ken get bitten when there were so many people there? Seriously, every major character was at that run, including the leader of four of the five communities. Most of them got nothign to say, so I'd rather they revealed what's become of every character slowly, like in the comics. Gabriel and Anne didn't need to be there, nor Enid or Cyndie. Cut the cast a little bit, and focus on less characters per episode. It's almost the opposite problem I had with Gimple's version of the show.

Lol, pick one. Besides, one of the reasons the ep has been praised is that every main character has appeared in it.

It's actually better that Angela is focusing on the core characters and closing Rick's storyline. Then, we have the second time jump and thant's when Magna and her gang first appear, which I actually think works better. These first 5 episodes are really meant to focus on our core group and how they relate to each other and react to a couple major exits. If they had tried to fit them in the premiere, along with everything else, it would have likely felt rushed and everyone would have complained about the cast being bigger.

I think that even though this episode was called A New Beginning, the huge time jump will really be the real new beginning. First we need some clousure on certain storylines and characters and how the communities realy come together (in honor to Rick's death).

I think that from 9x06, the episode where they debut, the cast will start to feel like an ensemble and all the characters will have time to shine. And to care for Magna and co, we really need the REAL fresh start, where some things have been taken care of. I think introducing them post time-jump-2 is the right call.
