Hey, my dudes, it's ya boy GhostWolf716 here back at it again with another review/rant of the latest walking dead issue. Nothing else to discuss and it's a short one so let's jump right in!
Alright, I'll try to keep my sanity for this one. Let's start with the rushed Eugene/Siddiq thing. A stupid plotline gets a stupid ending I suppose. What literally everyone predicted would happen, happened. Eugene went "I FORGIVE YOU" he even has a goofy flashback of Rosita saying she didn't love Siddiq. (Kirkman used to suck his own dick about not using flashbacks lol) But it gets worse. Eugene actually APOLOGIZES for Siddiq's LOSS and FUCKING HUGS HIM WHAT THE FUCK!! God forbid you threaten him, or even tell him to shut his gap-tooth ass up, or anything an interesting morally grey character might do, smh. Anyway Eugene goes on to make a really weird joke about his dead girlfriend having a bad taste in men, and Siddiq has a good laugh. Um... how sweet?
Anyway, let's move on to the rest of the issue. Yeah, no other plotlines appear in the issue, just Princess' introduction. If you devote an entire issue to introducing a new character, you better be damn sure that character is amazing, right? Whew boy...
So, Michonne decides to do a really forced reference to Day of The Dead (a much better work of zombie fiction than this shit) and starts screaming at the top of her lungs in a zombie infested city like a fucking idiot, and then we see her. The bad Buffy fanfiction character reveals herself, her name is Juanita Sanchez (totally an average name) and she's pretty wacky, if you couldn't already tell. She's got a crazy, but adorable pink jacket and some snazzy goggles (this is actual dialogue I'm dead serious) and she has a big, goofy, completely impractical machine gun. She says she crowned herself the Princess because "Queen" makes her sound old *Doug Walker intensifies* and she hasn't talked to anyone in a year, yadda yadda. And the normally cautious Eugene just decides this person is cool and says they should follow her.
So on the way, the Biker Chick from Mars goes on some random rant about the diversity of Michonnes group and how much she hates the word "minority" and Michonne goes "HEH U GOT A POINT, IM BLACK SO I GUESS I GOTTA CARE ABOUT THAT KIND OF THING" (solid progressive writing, Kirky) On a sidenote, why is Kirkman suddenly acting so progressive? This is the dude that almost always kills off the female love interest instead of the male one (aside from a few exceptions) and it almost always leads to no character development, gave TWO female characters the generic "cheater" plotline and then killed them, reduced the best female character in the series, a strong independent woman into just "Rick's wife xd" and then gave her an insultingly lame death. Not to mention the series is pretty much dominated by white characters, and almost every diverse character in the series has been bland, annoying or killed off too soon. If Kirkman was trying to take some jab at the lack of diversity in comics, it failed hard. Kind of the pot calling the kettle black there, Robert.
Anyway, we get Magna's biggest character development, she's Greek. Which she clarifies in big BOLD lettering so you know it's important. And the lost TMNT character comments that she's beautiful (Magna/Yumiko/Princess three way confirmed????) After all that terrible dialogue is out of the way, we arrive at Juanita's building, where she makes a joke that she has people inside (what a smart thing to do) she freaks everyone out then does a terrifying laughing face and goes inside, saying she'll be right back, Michonne gives us the same face she makes in like every panel and the issue ends.
Holy fuck, that was terrible. This was by far the worst issue for me, the fact that a future issue has potential to beat it fucking terrifies me. Post your thoughts in the comments, if you like. If you enjoyed the issue, please never speak to me.
Sidenote: This crappy art
Is it just me or has the art gotten really lazy the past few issues? Almost every issue theres some goofy facial expression, hell that was half of the Princess' faces in this issue. Also a lot of the characters look significantly younger, Dwight being the big one, he used to be like forty, now he looks like a fucking teenager. I guess, Adlard and the other two have just given up? Can't really blame them I suppose.
