"What We Become" is the fourth episode of The Walking Dead: Red Machete. It is the fourth episode of the web series overall. It premiered on February 25, 2018. It was written by Nick Bernardone and directed by Avi Youabian.

Plot

A montage of Joe and the Claimers is shown; walking past the Terminus sign whilst shaking their heads, claiming leftover goods from abandoned camps, watching a survivor get eaten so they can take his backpack, and raiding a cabin.

One night, two thieves descend upon the Claimers and are quickly apprehended and punished, one having his hand chopped off using the red handled machete. Joe packs the machete into his bag where it is later taken by Rick Grimes and his group after killing the Claimers.

The machete is shown being used on Gareth and the subsequent travels the blade had before being taken by the Saviors.

• The animated sequence was done by TADApix Creative. Some of the scenes are different than in the final product.
  • Originally, the characters' faces were much clearer.
  • Scenes with the other members of Rick's Group were removed, such as Rick, Abraham, and Daryl standing over a map, the Survivors pushing the barn door closed, and the Survivors arriving at Alexandria.
• This episode's title is shared with the thirteenth episode of Season 10 of The Walking Dead.
