William Carver is a main character and an antagonist, as well as a survivor of the outbreak in The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series. William is a ruthless, brutal, violent, tyrannical, and insane leader of a community built around an abandoned Howe's Hardware. He pursued eight survivors who escaped from his community and set off to bring them back, especially Rebecca, who is pregnant with his possible child. William wants to protect his community and believes that the new generation needs be stronger than its predecessor. He dislikes weakness and incompetence in people, seeing them as a threat to other survivors. He served as the primary antagonist of the first half of Season 2.
Overview
Carver is highly intelligent and charismatic, but also cunning, manipulative, sadistic, and ruthless. He firmly believes that people must be hardened in order to survive in the post-apocalyptic world, going so far as to murder people whom he deems a threat to his community, such as Reggie. He identifies himself as a leader, and frequently alludes to Darwinism when discussing the role of leaders to guide less capable people whose nature it is to follow others. He frequently attempts to sow mistrust and enmity among potential enemies, such as when he attempts to advise Clementine that the cabin survivors could not be trusted. Carver was relentless in his objectives and a brilliant tracker, evident in how he was able to track the cabin survivors to North Carolina from his camp in Tennessee.
Carver's charisma and intelligence also hide both an extremely violent and abusive streak and a twistedly warped sense of humor at the same time. Carver first displayed this aggressive nature when confronting Carlos, punching the man in the face for spitting on him after quipping "Nice to see you too", and later tortured him into submission, beating him and breaking his fingers. When taking the group back to his community, he had no qualms with hitting children, slapping Clementine to the floor. (Determinant) He also enjoyed forcing others to be violent, not minding Troy hitting Clementine and/or Sarita (Determinant) and forced Carlos to slap his daughter, Sarah, while joking around and saying that Troy's methods are "overzealous", before asking him if he is using that word right. Later, he heavily beat a captured Luke, bruising his ribs and face then (when Kenny claimed blame for a stolen radio) Carver used the radio to knock Kenny down before savagely beating Kenny so viciously that it may have caused brain damage and crippled his left eye, (which could very well be the reason for Kenny's instability afterwards) only stopping when Bonnie made him aware of a breach. Within the corner of Carver's office lies an extremely bloodied swivel chair, attached to a pair of handcuffs and placed over a sheet of plastic, which Bill uses as a makeshift interrogation and torture area. Alvin himself can be shown in the chair, completely drenched in blood and beaten within an inch of his life by Carver (Determinant). Carver's arrogant and psychopathic tendencies became more pronounced during his death, when he mockingly goaded Kenny into beating him with a crowbar, while also sadistically joking about his wounds that he gave him, as well as calling the survivors "sheep running out of the pen" as they leave him to die.
Carver's malicious torture techniques towards individuals he deems disloyal or expendable, as well as his tendency for murder, most likely contributed to the Cabin Group's immense fear and hatred towards him, culminating in their decision to escape from his camp twice. Carver justifies his actions by proclaiming they are for the sake of survivalism and that he wishes things were different. The extent of his insanity is noticeable when he stated he would rather shoot Rebecca and her unborn child (which he willfully believed was his) rather than let her take it away from him.
Carver's use of Darwinism foreshadowed the fate for most of the leaving survivors. Before being beaten, he refers to those leaving the room as "lambs to the slaughter" with no "shepherd to guide you". He also insults Carlos helping people leave, snidely joking to him and the others, "yeah, go on, let the sheep out of the pen. We'll see how long that lasts". Subsequently, most of the survivors end up dead, a few determinately.
Pre-Apocalypse
Location Unknown
Nothing is known about Carver's life prior to or as the outbreak began, except he worked as an engineer. He mentions that he dislikes "Yankee weather" and had not been "north" prior to the apocalypse. Thus, he may have lived in the southern United States.
Post-Apocalypse
Season Two
At some point after the outbreak, Carver and several other survivors settled in a Howe's Hardware store in rural Tennessee. It is unknown how, but Carver became the leader of a burgeoning community at the hardware store, trusted to be in charge of managing its people. According to some of its residents, Howe's Hardware became a safe, prosperous settlement under Carver's careful leadership. He sought to grow his community into becoming a refuge for all, assigning Tavia and others to create a wide search across state lines for new survivors to bring back to the community. Carver assigned tasks to others, including having Alvin's wife Rebecca make announcements over the PA system in the hardware store. Roughly sixteen months into the outbreak, Carver and Rebecca had a sexual encounter that became an open secret among other survivors, though whether it was consensual is unknown.
Over time, Carver grew increasingly authoritative over his community, coming to believe that he was responsible for protecting the community against not just roving herds of walkers, but even weakness from within. He forbid survivors from recreational drug use, penalizing them for smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol. As he became more strict and overbearing, Carver began having frequent disagreements with Luke and the community doctor Carlos. When Rebecca began showing signs of pregnancy, their arguments grew even worse, Carver believing that the child was his and wanting to make sure it was raised to be strong like himself. Rebecca would later describe the situation as "unbearable" toward the end, with her and other survivors coming to the conclusion that they were no longer safe around Carver.
Around two years into the outbreak, Rebecca, Alvin, Luke, Carlos, Sarah, Pete, Nick and his mother and Reggie all decided to flee Carver and the community. Their escape attempt was botched, however, resulting in Reggie being left behind and Alvin killing George. Outraged by their flight, Carver ordered Reggie to be thrown into confinement in a fenced-in area just outside of the hardware store, then used him for forced labor to continue work around the community. Other new survivors brought in or captured were similarly thrown into the pen and forced to work, with Carver dangling the promise of becoming an accepted member of the community in front of them to keep them motivated.
Carver continued managing the community while searching for Rebecca and his unborn child. He ordered an expansion project to extend the fencing around the community, cowing other survivors who did not see the need for the added space. He got a greenhouse in working order on the roof, demanding that it be kept in peak operating condition at all times. The community also developed a solar panel array to provide power, allowing Carver to continue making announcements and motivational sermons to its residents.
Rebecca and the others lived in constant fear of him, knowing that he would stop at nothing to bring them back.
"All That Remains"
Carver is never seen, but the cabin survivors' mistrust of Clementine was motivated by their belief that she may have been a spy sent by Carver to find them. Carlos mentions that Carver was once a member of the group.
It is believed that Carver, Bonnie, Troy and Johnny got into a firefight with Roman and his bandits during a thunderstorm, effectively wiping them out with only a mortally wounded Victor surviving until Clementine arrived the following morning. When Pete and Nick discovered the scene with her, both men immediately assumed that it was Carver who had attacked them.
"A House Divided"
Carver's first appearance in this episode occurs after Clementine and Sarah are left alone in the cabin. Carver arrives at the cabin and, using the name "George" (Determinant), makes his way inside, asking Clementine many questions about who lives at the cabin with a specific focus on Rebecca. In the same instance, he later discovers that the group he was searching for do reside in the cabin, and so he ultimately leaves the home after giving Clementine advice about trust.
Later on in the episode, Carver and his group kill off the walkers that are attacking the cabin group at the ski lodge, in which they were staying at for the night. After dispatching the remaining walkers, Carver approaches Carlos, immediately asking him where Rebecca is. Carlos responds by spitting in Carver's face and Carver retaliates by punching him in the face, causing Sarah to give her position away and be captured alongside her father and other members of the group. Carver quickly deduces that Rebecca must be inside the ski lodge and he takes Carlos and the other captives inside, holding them all at gunpoint.
After a few minutes of searching the lodge, Carver is seen getting visibly frustrated over the group not telling him where Rebecca is and he decides to start torturing Carlos until Rebecca, Luke, Alvin and Clementine give up. After breaking two of Carlos's fingers, he threatens to finally kill Carlos in front of his daughter. Rebecca and Alvin eventually give themselves up to Carver, Clementine too depending on the player's choices. No matter the choice, Kenny attempts to save the group by shooting one of Carver's guards, Johnny. This only angers Carver more, and he takes Walter and kills him in exchange, demanding that Kenny surrenders or he will keep killing more people. After Kenny fires at him again, he takes Alvin, and, depending on the player's actions, kills him or takes Clementine instead as bait. If you chose to escape outside and meet up with Kenny, Clementine has the option of telling Kenny to take a shot at Carver after taking Alvin hostage. If Clementine tells Kenny to take the shot, Carver will survive and kill Alvin and cause him to take Sarita hostage. Kenny (and Clementine, depending on the player's choices) then surrenders, and the group is tied up. Carver, upon seeing Luke not giving himself up as well, instantly assumes that he had run away, stating that he is not surprised. Not seeing any point in remaining at the lodge, he rounds up the remaining hostages and brings them all back on the road to his camp as prisoners.
"In Harm's Way"
Carver's first appearance in this episode is outside of the trailer truck, where he is talking to someone over a walkie-talkie. When Clementine listens in on his conversation, Carver then tells Clementine that it is impolite to eavesdrop on a conversation. If Clementine doesn't respond or apologizes, he says that he understands, or if she continues to stare, Carver will then smack her in the face and tells her she really doesn't want to test him. He then calmly orders Troy to tie both Clementine and Sarah up and put them back in the van.
When the group arrive at Howe's Hardware, Carver can be heard talking through the PA system, which is later shown to be in his office, and he is not seen again until the next day. By the morning, Carver gives a speech to the group about what they will be expected to do at the camp. While Carver is talking, Sarah continues muttering to Clementine about the camp, angering Carver. As Sarah continues talking, Carver will shout for her to stop, before commanding Carlos to discipline Sarah by smacking her across the mouth. Carlos initially refuses, but Carver gives him no choice, offering that Troy will smack Sarah across the mouth should Carlos be unable. After Carlos does so, Carver states that everyone should have their assignments before leaving.
His next appearance is to the greenhouse where Reggie, Clementine and Sarah are working. He notes that he is just "checking in" to see how the work is progressing, but once he sees one of the work bowls being empty, his mood suddenly shifts to anger towards Reggie. After Carver tells Clementine and Sarah to wait outside so that he can talk to Reggie, Carver suddenly pushes Reggie out of the greenhouse and off of the roof, killing him. Carver will then warn Clementine and Sarah about the consequence of being weak and incompetent, before ordering Clementine to see Bonnie. As Clementine walks away, Carver is seen approaching Sarah and placing his hand on her shoulder, but their conversation is unknown.
Later in the episode, Carver is seen in his office, talking to Rebecca. As Clementine approaches the office, Rebecca walks out of it in tears, before Carver calls Clementine inside. Inside the office, Carver talks about the reasoning for the death of Reggie and then he proposes that they are more alike than they think, noting Clementine's ability to look Carver straight in the eye without losing nerve during "A House Divided" when Carver appeared at the cabin. Carver then has a conversation on a walkie-talkie before commanding Clementine to go back to the yard.
The following day, Carver appears in the yard with a captured and beaten Luke, and Carver details his anger that he was repaid with theft and treachery. He holds up one of the walkie-talkies that was stolen and requests that the other one should be brought forth before he counts to three otherwise he would make the situation more difficult. As Kenny gives him the other stolen walkie-talkie, Carver turns to anger and begins to heavily beat Kenny. Carver only ceases the violence when Bonnie warns of a breach, and so Carver leaves to investigate only after stating that the group won't receive any dinner and he will try this again tomorrow.
Later, Carver is briefly shown running through the store after Clementine turns on the PA system.
His final appearance is within the stock room of the hardware store, in which he has caught the group trying to escape. Clementine, whom had entered from a sky-roof, distracts Carver by either shooting him in the cheek or jumping on his back, allowing Kenny to punch Carver and Luke to disarm him and hold him hostage. While arguing what to do with Carver, Kenny quickly shoots Carver's legs, crippling him and causing him to collapse on the floor. Kenny then collects a crowbar, and, after asking the rest of the group to wait outside, begins to brutally beat Carver to death with it, destroying his face completely.
"No Going Back"
If Clementine killed Kenny and came back to Howe's Hardware with Jane, they will encounter Carver's corpse. Jane will comment on whether or not Clementine chose to watch Carver die before leaving his body where they found it.
A New Frontier
"Thicker Than Water"
If Clementine went with Jane at the end of "No Going Back", she has a flashback where Carver's corpse can be seen with a pile of other walker corpses after Clementine and Jane cleaned out the bodies into a nearby pit.
Death
- Killed By
- Clementine (Caused)
- Luke (Caused)
- Kenny
Carver captures Rebecca and the others as they attempt to escape Howe's Hardware. Clementine, having escaped separately from the others, either shoots Carver along his cheek or lands on top of his head from above, allowing Kenny and Luke to disarm him. Luke holds Carver up and intends to subdue him, but Kenny recovers his own pistol and shoots Carver in both of his legs before anyone can react, crippling him. Kenny orders the others to wait outside, picking up an old crowbar and menacing Carver with it. Despite Luke arguing against killing Carver like this, he ultimately goes to join the others outside, though Rebecca remains behind to witness Carver's demise.
Clementine can choose to go with the others or stay behind and vengefully watch, with Carver mockingly supporting the latter course of action. After the others leave, Kenny brutally smashes his face in with the crowbar seventeen times in a row, even though Carver died upon the second hit, leaving an almost unrecognizable corpse behind.
Killed Victims
This list shows the victims Carver has killed:
- Roman (Alongside Bonnie, Troy, and Johnny)
- Victor (Caused, alongside Bonnie, Troy, and Johnny)
- Peter Randall (Before Reanimation or Zombified, Determinant)
- Walter
- Alvin (Direct or Caused)
- Reggie
- 7 unnamed members of Roman's Group (2 Alive, alongside Bonnie, Troy, and Johnny)

Quotes
The following is a list of some of Carver's most memorable quotes.
Season Two"Is that how your dad taught you to greet a neighbor? (…) Smart girl. I would too. But I'm not a bad guy, honey. Promise you that." "My family and I are set up a ways downriver. I'm... kinda surprised we haven't run into each other yet. What's your name? (…) Clementine. Well, you look just like a Clementine. You mind if I come in, Clementine? I've been out all morning and this heat has got me cooked." "My name is George, honey. (offers handshake)" "Carley. That's a sweet name. You mind if I come in, Carley?" "Hey, y'know, I'm sorry to disturb you. I only need a couple minutes of your time." "This is a nice place. Is there anyone around? You don't usually see cabins this big out here. Sure could pack a lot of folks in there. (…) Oh? How big? (…) And they left you here all alone? They must trust you." "Yeah? And what's his name? ("Ed.") A strong name. I like him already. Where is he?" "Well, I'll cut to the chase; I'm looking for my people. Seven of them, to be exact. They've been gone a long while and... I'm worried they might've gotten lost. Maybe you've seen 'em. Couple of farm boys and an old man... Spanish guy and his daughter. Quiet girl, bit taller than you. A big black guy. This big. And a pretty little pregnant lady." "You saw who? Where? (…) The river? You sure about that? (…) Well, no offense, but I'd guess that wasn't them. 'Cause the ones I'm lookin' for are very careful people." "Can you hear me, dear? (Clem nods) Ah. Okay." "Lotta plates for one person/That's a lotta plates for two people. Looks like a tornado ran through here." "Just passin' through, or you been here a while? Hey, listen, kid. I hope you're not one of those nuts headed up north, lookin' for Shangri-La. Now, I'm not sure why you'd go anywhere after findin' this place. Hell, I just got here and I already don't want to leave. (…) Whole lot of people headed that way lately. Me, I don't get it. Just as much nothin' up there as there is down here. And I can't stand that Yankee weather." "Down by the river there. There's a sweet little spot with a boat where we pitched camp. Got a few tents up and everything else. Like I said, I'm surprised we haven't run into each other. (…) Been there for a good while now." "I knew a guy that always wore shirts like this. Doctor. Real smug son of a bitch. But a smart man. I miss him. (…) Let's just say we had our differences. Sooner or later, people close to you will find a reason to cross you. Happens every time." "You know, you're really not very polite for a little girl. ("And you're not very polite for an adult.") Fair point." "Well, well...white's in trouble. Three moves away from checkmate." "You have no idea who these people are, do you? (…) Lemme ask you this. When you met 'em, how much did they trust you? (…) If people don't trust you, how can you trust them?" "Listen, I'm only gonna ask you once. Where's Rebecca? (…) Rebecca? Rebecca, our baby deserves to be raised in a place of safety! I know you're out there. And Alvin, and Luke, and the girl. This is real simple. You want this over quick, you all play nice and show your faces!" "Say goodbye, Carlos. (…) Nobody? Now that's disappointing." "That's for our man! Now, I didn't want to do this, but you ain't leavin' me much choice! So here's what's gonna happen! I'm gonna march another one of your friends out here and I'm gonna put a bullet in the back of their head! Or you can give up now! Your choice." "Do you remember George, Alvin? You see, I do. I remember a guy that was your friend named George. I remember when you murdered him in cold blood. And why? Because you didn't like me? You could've lodged a complaint. You could've... well, you could've been civil." "We can do this all night! Is that what you want?" "Where's Luke? Finally cut and run, huh? Why am I not surprised? I warned you. I warned you not to follow him. And look where he's led you. But you're safe now. We're going home. As a family. Alright, round 'em up. We're headin' back to camp." "If I find out you've been wasting fuel to keep that fuckin' heater going, I'll make you walk back." "It ain't polite to listen to other folks' conversations. Has anyone ever taught you that? Where's your manners?" "Oh, really? And what happened to it? 'Cause you can't have this one. (…) Is that why you're lookin' at this one? You wanna call Mommy and Daddy? (…) Everybody's parents are dead. That don't make you special." "You don't want to test me, girl. I'll pass every time." "(over PA system) We've got some familiar faces back with us tonight. Now, I understand some of you are confused as to why we'd bring these people back when they left us as they did. It might not come all at once, but time will heal these wounds. So be patient with them until it does... and take solace in knowing that they're here to help us make our home a better place. All these feelings you have of anger, betrayal, hate. They're all valid. No one needs to forget what they did... but we do have to find it in our hearts to forgive them." "(over PA system) As many of you already know, a large herd of lurkers gathers just south of us. We've kept an eye on the movements, and, well, with any luck, it's just passing through. But rest assured that if it does turn our way, it's nothing we can't handle. Some of you have voiced your concerns about the need for expansion with the looming threat. And they have been taken into consideration. However, this is not up for debate. The expansion project will move forward. And with the added manpower joining us this evening, I have no doubt that we will continue to grow and prosper. It's no longer enough just to survive, it's our obligation to make this community a beacon of hope. To provide a light... a bright light. Bright enough to shine in all this darkness. So that is what we'll do." "There's been increased walker activity along the fence, so be mindful when outside the walls. The herd's moved a little closer as of this morning, but that still doesn't necessarily mean we'll be hit. Know we're monitoring the situation. Now... There are some folks might be sore about what happened... at how things went. Well, that's all in the past now. Some of you are new to our community. Some of you are members who went astray. But know that you can find redemption here... forgiveness... by proving your worth through what will undoubtedly be hard work." "Yeah, Reggie slipped up last night, but that doesn't mean he should lose hope. Today will be a test for him, so let's all wish him the best of luck." "Reggie, you're nearly back in. Keep following the path, and we'll welcome you back with open arms." "I'll let Reggie be an example to you all. Salvation is available, but it must be earned. Kenneth will be taking over Reggie's duties outside the wall. Michael will continue on showing his value." "Carlos! (…) Your child seems to be in need of correction. (…) No, no. That ain't gonna cut it. I can't have this kind of behavior on day one of your reform. You discipline her now, Carlos. (…) One good smack across the mouth should do it. It'll make her think twice before opening it up again. Go on, we'll wait. (…) Well, that's why you got two hands, Carlos. Come on. And not some namby-pamby thing, alright? A good hard smack. Otherwise, Troy here will do it for ya. I don't think you want that. He can be... overzealous. Is that the word? (…) Go on, Carlos. Just get it over with." "Stop! You're not coddling that girl anymore. Let her sit there and think about what she's done. Troy, get Carlos to his post. Everyone else should have their assignments. It's time to get to work. Everyone get to work!" "Just checking in... see how the new girls are working out. (notices missing/poorly done work) Reggie. What the fuck happened in here? (…) Shut up, shut up. Shut the fuck up. You better have an explanation for this. And I mean now. (…) Sounds like you're about to give me an excuse when I asked for an explanation. (…) Time's up, Reggie. You had a task and you didn't get it done. Looks to me like you failed. We talked about this, Reggie. Didn't we? But you just don't get it, do you? (…) Why don't you girls wait outside? Reggie and I have a few things to talk about." "Well, that's where you're wrong. I shouldn't have to hit people. But I do know plenty of people who need to be hit. You know should know I don't like havin' to resort to violence. I'm not a patient man. I try to be, but there ain't room for weakness when you got so many lives in your hands. Exploring is for those who fall in line. I got no use for the other ones." "I gave you plenty of chances! (shoves Reggie off roof) Weakness, incompetence, it puts us all at risk, and it won't be tolerated. You think about that the next time you're asked to do something. Get downstairs. Bonnie's got some stuff for you to do. Go!" "She's a strong woman, surrounded by weak men. I ain't lettin' my kid get raised around that." "He passed out hours ago. He can't hear nothin'. No point in making a racket. (…) Me and him, we got history. Understand? A couple things we had to... get worked out. I wouldn't be so concerned about his well-being if I were you. Not with you being so close to the fire yourself. Now..." "You make sure you tell me the truth when you're sittin' where you are... and you won't end up over in that chair. You might not believe this after what happened earlier, but... I liked Reggie. He was a funny guy. He kept things light. You need folks like that... it's easy to let depression sink in during times like this. But he was weak. And I don't mean just 'cause he was maimed, that wasn't his problem. He was weak of will. Weak of character. And we can't have that around here, not anymore. Not with what we got at stake. You have to be able to contribute... (…) Listen, Clementine. It ain't murder." "You see, Reggie put us at risk with his incompetence. He's had a string of screw-ups lately. Killing one in order to save many is part of survival. It's one of the tough decisions that a weaker person couldn't make. It's why it falls to people like us to lead them to safety. Do you understand? Well, I wish it was different, I do. But they are weak... and we are strong. That's why it's our responsibility to shepherd the flock... to keep them safe. It's their nature to follow... not to lead." "("You know what I wish?") What's that, honey? ("I wish Kenny had killed you.") And there's all the proof I need, right there. You think anyone out there'd have the balls to say somethin' like that?" "I know it when I see it. And we're more alike than you think. In fact, I think you realize it, but you're not comfortable with it yet. There's no way you could've lasted this long otherwise. I realized it back in that cabin. You were scared, but you looked me straight in the eye. Kept your nerve. That's what we need if we're gonna get through this. The next generation has to be stronger than the last to... lead us out of this. Kids like you, raised the right way. The way my child'll be raised. It ain't this herd that keeps me up at night. We can handle that. It's not knowin' if I got anyone to hand all this off to... but I ain't worried about that anymore." "Well, even if that was true, it's mine now." "That fuckin' idiot. Herd on its way and he puts a goddamn ding in my door." "And how is it that we're repaid for our trust? With treachery? With deceit? With theft? Whatever you were planning is over, it's done. You can't just run from your problems. You can't just up and leave when it gets tough, 'cause there's nowhere else you can go where it ain't. Tough is all we got now. Get that through your fuckin' skulls. Luke here, he can't help you now. You gotta help yourselves. You gotta help me find the strength to forgive you. Now, you can start... by telling me where the other one is. I'm gonna count to three. If that radio ain't in my hand by then, we'll have to make things more difficult. One. Two... Three." "Alright, everyone come with me. Bonnie, you stick around. Make sure these folks don't get into any more trouble. (…) No supper for y'all tonight. Maybe an empty stomach will give you some perspective, then we'll try this again tomorrow." "You wanna disrespect me, fine! You wanna throw away the life I'm tryin' to build for us all, then fuckin' fine! You wanna run off with this dogshit group of crippled fucks, then fine! Be my guest. But I will put a bullet in you and that baby before I let you leave again with my child! ("It's not yours!") You don't fucking know that! And until we do, you're not goin' anywhere!" "Rebecca, Rebecca, sweetie, my God. How did we get here, you and me? This is just a bit of a custody battle we got on our hands, here." "That girl's already seen more than you can imagine. (…) Look at you, you fuckin' ingrates. You don't even know how good you got it. That's alright. You'll learn. Lambs to the slaughter, no shepherd to guide you. Clementine knows exactly what I'm talkin' about. Fuckin' big man now, huh?" "Atta girl... she ain't afraid to look it in the eye. You go with that feelin' ya got right now, Clementine. It's what makes you stronger than the rest of 'em." "Oh, come on, Clementine, don't be like that. Don't run away... you know you wanna see the show. Who do you think you're foolin', huh? I know you. I know who you are." "Yeah, go on! Let the sheep out of the pen! We'll see how long that lasts. ("You won't see anything.") That's funny comin' from you. How's that eye? Just follow my voice... it'll get ya there. You got a thick fuckin' skull, Kenneth. Should've put you outta your misery right then. Now look at ya. You're a mess. (to Rebecca) The fuck are you looking at, bitch?! Don't act like you didn't love every second of it--" |

- This can only happen if Kenny shot Carver in "A House Divided".
- Three can be caused by Kenny.
- Carver demonstrates an extremely high tolerance for pain.
- He calmly stands back up after being shot in the shoulder by Kenny, displaying no visible discomfort aside from cupping the wound and grimacing for a moment before raising the injured arm to shoot Alvin.
- He seems unperturbed by the damage to his own hand when he beats Kenny three days later with the same arm that had been shot (Determinant).
- Its implied he was the one to heavily beat Alvin (Determinant) though he displays no sign of exhaustion after such.
- He also doesn't cry out in pain when shot by Clementine (Determinant).
- Carver's original placeholder model for the "A House Divided" teaser trailer (featured at the end of "All That Remains") was Troy's current model.
- Before Michael Madsen joined the cast to portray William Carver, Carver's role was smaller, mainly serving as an abstract force instead of a true obstacle. Telltale eventually decided to make his role bigger by expanding his role after Madsen joined the cast, adding more dialogues about his rules, and philosophy to make him a stronger singular source of the problems at the Howe's Hardware community.[2]
- Also, before his character was created by Telltale. Telltale planned Kenny to adapt his role before it was decided that Kenny should return as an ally, thus forming the "Carver" character. This was revealed by Gavin Hammon during his OMG!Con 2015 Q&A Panel alongside Melissa Hutchison.[3]
- According to unused audio clips, Carver claimed to have had a wife before the apocalypse, like Jane had guessed during "No Going Back", though it is unknown what happened to her or if she ever really existed.
- Carver was originally going to be beat Kenny with a revolver instead of the walkie-talkie, as seen in the preview trailer for the episode "In Harm's Way". Later, this was changed.[4]
- When Carver is talking to Clementine in the lodge, he comments how the white King on a chessboard is three moves away from checkmate. This foreshadows his defeat in episode 3:
- Move 1: Clementine jumps on or shoots him.
- Move 2: Kenny punches him in the face, making him stumble back.
- Move 3: Luke wrestles his AK-47 from him and holds him at gun point. He is now cornered by everyone else (the black pieces) and is in checkmate.
- Carver's death is very similar to the death of Glenn Rhee from the comic book series.
- Where Negan kills Glenn in two hits with his baseball bat and keeps hitting even when he's dead.
- Kenny does the same and kills Carver with two hits with a crowbar and keeps hitting even when he's dead.
- The difference is that the main antagonist kills one of the main characters, but here it's the other way around.
- Carver is one of six Season 2 characters who can appear in Season 3 (Determinant), the others being Jane (Determinant), Edith (Determinant), Kenny (Determinant), Clementine and Alvin Jr.
- Unlike the other five, Carver reappears as a corpse.
- In the Japanese version of Season Two, Carver's death scene is censored. When Kenny destroys his face, the redness is blackened reducing the gore. Despite the censorship of the extreme gore, the game was still given a CERO Z rating, the most inappropriate rating. [5]
- Carver may take inspiration from the character of Bill from Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill duology. Both Bills are somewhat philosophical characters who chase after their pregnant mistresses, kill their husbands and intend to raise their children on their own.
- Carver's voice actor, Michael Madsen previously portrayed Bill's brother Budd in the Kill Bill duology.
