The Woodbury Army is a massive group of survivors that reside in Woodbury, Georgia. They are led by Brian Blake.
Pre-Apocalypse
The Woodbury Army were originally scattered citizens around the U.S.
Post-Apocalypse
After the outbreak, before Brian Blake and his group arrived in Woodbury, the town was lead by Gene Gavin, a member of the National Guard. After Brian, his brother Philip, Philip's Zombified daughter Penny, and his best friend Nick arrived, Philip attempted to rape and Jim Bridges' Daughter, and then kill her to feed to Penney. Nick shot Philip in the back attempting to save the girl's life, however the bullet went through Philip and hit the girl in the head. Brian, enraged by this, shot Nick in the head, Philip died in Brian's arms. Later Detroit, the town's mechanic is murdered by Gavin, while attempting to leave. Brian shoots Gavin in the head. When one of the men Caesar Martinez asks Brian for his name, he answers "Philip Blake". "Philip" then takes command of the town and creates the Woodbury Army.
"The Best Defense"
Rick Grimes, Michonne, and Glenn, first encounter Woodbury when they find a crashed helicopter near it. At first, Woodbury seems like an ordinary group of survivors, however, after discovering that they they feed the arena walkers strangers, they try to leave, however Rick gets his hand chopped off. Michonne bites off the Governor's left ear. The three are held captive by the Governor. Rick's injury is treated by Dr. Stevens, Glenn is being held in a cell, and Michonne is being held in a garage.
"This Sorrowful Life"
While Rick is being treated by Stevens, Martinez walks in Stevens' office, Rick attacks Martinez, furious at him for bringing him to the governor. Martinez tells him of his plan to escape. He opens the office door, and it is revealed that Glenn has escaped his cell, and knocked out two guards Denny and Lou. The trio escapes they run into Alice Warren, Dr. Stevens' nurse. She tells them that she and Stevens want to go with them. Along the way they rescue Michonne, who has been raped twice by Brian. They try to walk over the gates, however Curtis is guarding it. Martinez manages to send him away. But Michonne says she has to "do something". Rick, Glenn, Stevens, and Alice make their way out, however Stevens is bitten by a walker not ten feet from the gates. Michonne goes to the governor's apartment and tortures and mutilates him as revenge for raping her. She leaves Woodbury.
"The Calm Before"
Glenn and Michonne return to Woodbury with Andrea, to get weapons to prepare for the Governor's attack on the Prison. After blowing up the National Guard Station, Bruce Allan Cooper leads four other men (Sam, Curtus, and two other unnamed men) to the smoke. They are all killed. Later, The Governor finally finds the Prison and orders the Woodbury Army to "KILL THEM ALL!".
"Made To Suffer"
Bruce, Gabriel Harris, and Jameson find the governor lying on a wooden panel, with his right arm missing, his left eye hanging from its socket. Gabe and Bruce think he's dead until a zombified Penny appears and tries to bite Bruce, but Jameson holds her back. Bruce is about to shoot her, but the governor mutters not to touch her. Bruce tells Gabe and Jameson to lock the "litte shit" up while he goes downstairs to get Bob Stookey (who was an army medic before the outbreak). A few weeks later, Brian wakes up in a bed, with Gabe at his side. He tells Brian that he has been out for a few weeks, and that he was up once and a while but probably won't remember anything. The arm almost got infected but didn't. Gabe also tells Brian that she kept him living, as if she had "more plans for him". Later at his apartment, Bruce tells him that they found Martinez dead, Brain goes to address the people. He tells them that the people that they are dealing with are "monsters". He shows them Martinez' zombified head. Leaving the town horrified, they support the Governor's plan of attacking, however they don't know where the prison is yet, and tells the people if anyone knows anything to let him know. After the speech, the governor is shooting at walkers, he is furious about how Michonne took his right arm and that he is useless with a gun. Later after pulling out Penny's teeth, Gabe knocks on the door and tells him what happened at the guard station. The two drive and Find several Men dead. They find a dying Bruce and he mutters "Bald fuck…They came back." Brian shoots him in the head to prevent him from reanimating. Gabe and another solider find the prison. After informing the governor, they leave a few weeks later and attack and he orders them to "KILL THEM ALL!".
A huge battle broke out and they lost a vast amount of soldiers during the siege. They ended up capturing The Prison, but not without running out of ammo, destroying part of the fence, and allowing The Prison to become overrun. Six remaining members of the army managed to escape thanks to the sacrifice made by Austin Ballard.
